Next Video conversion question: Film to DVD
After my mom passed on (hi mom, love ya) I decided to make sure I'd preserve my family history by scanning all my family's slides and pictures and storing disk in an organized manner....to CD or DVD. That process has begun as my father and I organize the source material.
That part seems to be straight forward. My question is on how to convert non audio 8mm and Super 8mm film to DVD. When looking into the technology years ago I saw a plastic box with a translucent screen. From what I gathered you'd project the movie into this box and onto it's screen while simultaneously recording the movie with your camcorder. BTW, this was before DVD was available. So, any recommendations on the best way to convert with the fewest steps possible. The projection box seems archaic and I want the highest quality possible.

Probably your best shot at quality will be to have a professional service do it for you.
I can't really think of any "amature" way to do the conversion. Check these guys, http://www.diginovations.com/memoryworks/film-transfer.htm Looks like $40-50 gets you 2 hours of content converted. Scott

Thanks Scott and Rick. I have exactly the same task after a recent family meeting.

I just looked at the posted link again.
Looks like for $15 they will do a conversion to Mini DV which you could convert to DVD on your own. Scott

What is used to play the film, and does it have RCA outputs? My guess is that if it does, it'll be just as easy as doing VHS to DVD.
If you don't want to do it yourself my friend is a manager at Cosmo Enterprises and they do a lot of transfer and duplication work.

Jeff, A good ole projector is used. The only output is to a screen or wall.
