Toyo F60 Land Cruiser Spec, Please
So I need specs on the F60:
Engine spec, towing spec, parts cost, etc,... Owner feed back? |

The FJ60 has the 2F motor: a 4.2L I 6, carbureted, 135hp, 210 ft lbs torque, 4-Speed Manual trans, 3500 lbs towing cap. (I've towed way more than that) 23.8 gal. fuel cap. Parts are nearly the same price as my 944, ie. alts are about $125, ps. pumps $150. Really, that's about all that fails. These vehicles are tanks, and by far one of the very best off-roading machines ever built. Reason being so is the front axel assembly is a ball and socket at the wheels, which provides for greater articulation. In 88 the FJ62 came out with an automatic transmission with a 4.0L 155hp, 220 ft. lbs. torque, 3500lbs. towing cap. Hope this helps. They are a true work horse, we have 7 in various years/models.

All of ours have been in Texas their entire lives, so no problems here. I can imagine that they would rust out over time with salt being put down on the roads during winter up north. The 74 FJ40 we have has very little rust. I searched and found this place: http://www.tlc4x4.com/2000/home.htm
They seem proud of the items they have though. I think the only thing we have replaced due to rust is the exhaust from the cat back, and hangers. It was only $120 at the dealer for the complete set up. Let me know what else I can help out on. What service might you be looking for out of one of these vehicles?

Forgot, the chassis is nearly as strong as an I beam, very stout.

Matt,
If I get one, it'll replace my Cherokee which I'll loan to my "needy" sister so she can have more reliable transportation than the beat up 4Runner of hers which is always an unscheduled repair job for me when she comes clanging down the street every other weekend. I'll drive the classic FJ60 during winter months and pull my race trailer and car to the track. I like the rugged nature of the trucks, and it will be nice to go anywhere I want too...so could the Jeep, but the FJ60 does it with a lot more "je n'ai se quoi!" ![]() I saw where someone even put a small block in an FJ60! Yes, some have put a chebbie 350 in mated to a 5sp trans. I have ridden in one, and they are quite impressive. We have intentions to scrap all the emissions junk on our 84 and mount a 4 barrell carb. From what I've heard it's not too pricey, and the performance gains are nuts. In factory trim these trucks are slooow, but it also depends on the individual l/c. Our 84 will run circles around our 83, I don't know why, they are the exactly same. Once up to speed, they are fine. Here's a true story:
My brother just got the first one, the 83, in 1991. It's first "mission" was to move my grandmother from Gainesville, Fla. to Dallas. Off to Florida it goes. Once there, rent a trailer, and start loading. Having not one iota of an idea what the truck is capable of, it departs. The rear of the vehicle was stuffed to the rim, a fully loaded trailer behind. (I forget, 20-22 ft.?) All is well until the driver managed to get a speeding ticket! That was the only hiccup. The l/c got maybe 5.5-6 mpg on the return trip, but there was not one single problem (outside the ticket) what so ever. The whole family was dying with laughter when they arrived in Dallas. (Imagine the Beverly Hillbillies) I couldn't believe the front wheels were actually touching the ground. Some weight they will pull, we were hooked! Go for it Souk.

You have to know where to find them. We were going to sell the 84 and 91, but the market was so lousy, we were better off keeping them. The 91 now trades off days as my daily with the 944. High miles mean nothing, all except the 74 have at least 180K and up to 250K miles on them. We bought most of them with near 110K miles.

I couldn't believe it either. These are, I'm sure, full frame off restos. I had to double check where I buy some parts, and it has to be a mis-print at $88k. www.coolcruisers.com They are pretty high as well at $19,800- $27,800, but are known to be the best around here. I know I'm not potentially sitting on a pot of gold. I saw that cc only buys 110k or less mile l/c's... The trucks are good, but not 930 price range good.

The rave will fade. It has come and gone for years. The FJ60 is unique in that it has a 4.2L and a manual trans., that's about the gist of it. All Toyota did later (from looking at the 62 next to the 60 in the driveway) is add some electronic features, ie. power fuel pump, antennae, locks, mirrors, windows, Fuel Injection(minus .2 liter to the motor) etc.., made it auto only, and added 2 squared off head lights. Inside the cabin, the FJ60 has a choke, the FJ62 has a throttle. I can't really tell you which one I like the best. That's bs., the one with the most gas always gets my vote.
