Acura NSX. A good car?

Hi,
I have been looking at the Acura NSX latley, but I have no experience, or extensive knowledge of them. Since they are made by Honda, I am assuming that they should be a pretty good car. I have not driven in one yet, although by the performance specs, they seem very high performance. I have been looking at the 1990-1995 years. Has anyone here ever driven an NSX before? Ever owned one?

Thanks.

A friend of mine has one and loves it. He said he hasn't had any trouble with it. It's his 3rd one. He lost his second one to our big flood a while back.

It's pretty known that maintenence on that car costs the same as a Honda Accord, that's kinda cool.

I like them a lot and for several reasons. Performance is definitely world class w/ a little prep, (One of Jack and Tyson's fiercest competitors in OTC is an NSX), and they never sold or built very many, so you will never see many on the road. (A huge plus in my book when it comes to anything from a jacket to a car).

I also think that aesthetically they are beautiful and classic in a way unlike the 911, but then every classic must be unique and unlike the others. At the L.A. auto show recently I was glad to see that they are still making them, but slightly perturbed by the new exposed headlights on them, I truly think that they were perfect the way that they were. That's the highest compliment of anything to me- it looks like one person's idea of what a sports car should be, just like our beloved 911s.

Also never forget that Honda dominated F1 very recently, as a performance/engineering company they are no joke.

I like the NSX for the very same reasons Denis likes them. I've also seen the NSX in competition, and they're quite fast. And that Honda reliability...only a Porsche can beat it, or maybe a Miata.

I've driven them a few times and they're awesome. They feel like a race car with a supple suspension. Not overly powerful, but they accelerate pretty well. Very reliable, good as a daily driver. Some of the earlier ones were known for eating tires very quickly, but I think there's an alignment fix.

Call Phil Petersen, the service manager at Oakland Acura. Tell him I referred you. He'll give you the skinny.

I used to play tennis with the GM for Hendrick Honda. One night we were talking cars and the NSX came up. He said to stay away from the early '90's cars. Don't remember exactly what he said, but it was a fairly major issue with the heads.

Other than that, I really like them too.

The early cars had a snap-ring problem in the transmission.

The following page explains the problem. From there, there is a link to the Honda Technical Service Bulletin .

By today's standards, the V6 290hp powerplant lacks the power of the supercars. (Earlier versions had around 250hp).

But the all aluminum chasis is supposed to be very responsive and light. And the looks - well, you just won't mistake the NSX for another car out there!

If power isn't a concern for you, the NSX is a wonderful choice for a near exotic supercar.

Geez, I sound like the folks at Road & Track!

I've always wanted one. I think the looks are second only to the Porsche and Ferarri in uniqueness. Plus the reliability is so much higher than the Ferarri.

And then, I sat in one. At 6'2", I'm to tall for it. My guess is that you must be 6' or under to be comfortable. Porsche fits perfect for me. But, I'll aways admire the NSX.

Now, If I could figure out a way to lower the seat 2 inches, then maybe!!!

I see less NSXs in L.A. than Ferraris. If anything, the NSX isn't a "poser" car.

... and w/ the 928 dashboard layout, you'll still feel loyal to Porsche

The only bad thing I can say about them is that they eat through rear tires real fast. Other than that, they're wonderful cars, especially the later ones with more hp, nicer wheels and slightly revised front and rear fascias. Of course a brand new one would be the best, since they ditched the retractable headlights, but IMHO brand new they're a bit overpriced.
