PelicanParts.com VS TheSamba.com

I've been surfing Pelican for many years, but I would have to go hands down with TheSamba.com....easier to navigate and a lot more goodies to search through.

Dont take my word for it, do your homework.

While I have nothing against vintage VW busses, the fact that I'm not a fan of them makes me feel you're comparing apples to oranges. Afterall, this is primarily a Porsche & BMW enthusiast's message board, while Samba's a vintage VW board.

As a 944 enthusiast, there's not much that Samba offers for me. Note: not all Porsches are air-cooled and pre-1973, although Tabs would argue that the last REAL Porsche was from back then...

Now a Pelican vs. Rennlist comparison.... oh, nevermind....That's probably NOT a good idea.

Like many of us, I'm a member of both boards, and while I agree that The Samba is an excellent board (easily the best VW board out there), the Pelican board is simply superb! It is much bigger, and it has much more to offer. Everett's site is wonderful at what it does at this point (forums with some fyi stickies, and classified ads), but it doesn't have the depth and the resources that Pelican has. But Everett is constantly improving his site, and I think the excellent Samba will perhaps be as good as Pelican in a year or so.

:)

genrex...i respect your opinion.

as for island911, you are definately in your own little world.

whether you like to admit or not, porsche and vw share the same blood (or should i say air) flowing through their veins. i know of numerous porsche enthusiast who utilize both pelican and samba. i thought it interesting to see opinions on who prefered which. no right or wrong answer here folks.

this ranks as one of the dumbest polls/threads I've seen in a long time. "Do your homework?" Who the f*ck are you? why do we care?

I used to have a 63 CrewCab pick-up. great truck. will get one again some day.

Will I join a web site cause I have an old VW pick-up? Uhhh, no, it's just an old VW truck, cool as it may be.

Thank you. I certainly respect what Everett has accomplished, and with the moderating team he now has, I think the little tweaks and improvements will happen even faster.

In my opinion, the only two areas where The Samba needs improvement in the short term are: (1) an expansion of the "fyi" stickies which provide helpful info and links, and (2) a policy which limits the size of pictures that people can post, as anything wider than 640 pixels will result in posts going well off-screen to the right. That's just a minor thing, perhaps, but it can be annoying.

The Samba is a beautiful website, no doubt about it.

Pelican.. well, in my experience it doesn't seem to need improvement. I bought my Porsche from their "cars for sale" section, and have used their many helpful tech/fyi articles, and their forums have usually proven satisfactory. But Pelican has been a learning experience in many ways. ;) Question: why do you post so infrequently? With your depth of knowledge and experience, surely there is a reason for this seeming quietude?

As an owner of a '72 911 and two Bugs, a '70 standard and a '71 Super, I spend time on both. I think both are excellent. They both reflect the personalities of the cars first and their owners second, which I think is kind of neat. I would call it a tie; couldn't live without either.

I have heard the VW Beetle called the greatest car of all time. All things considered, I probably agree with that. In fact, all things considered, price, design, quality, engineering, finish, reliability, versatility, ease of maintenance, functionality, yadda yadda, there probably is not another car in history that is even in its class.

Sambas have their own website? And here I have been buying mine all these years at the Foot Locker.

I have danced the samba.
When I was drunk.
Or was that the Limbo?
Oh well...

while in high school i did the nasty with this chick in a VW bus. really gave her the what for from what i recall. "who's yer daddy" was what i was yelling while going all texas style on her.

i choose not to participate in this dumb poll, but that day in the van was the stuff!
