Outdoor awnings
I want to put an awning over the front of my shop, to help keep it a little cooler in the summer. The two solutions I was looking at are that plastic corrugated roofing stuff, which is available locally in a color to match the structure, or the mesh stuff called 'Phifertex'. The advantage of the plastic roofing would be long-term durability, but I couldn't build a very big awning because of the weight of the structure to support it. The mesh stuff could be put up with a lighter frame, and therefore I could put up a larger awning, but @ ~$13/yard, which seems kind of pricey.
My garage door is 16' wide, and I would want the awning to come out at least 8' from the structure, which I could do with 10' sections of the plastic roofing; and I would like it to extend a foot or so on either side. Any ideas, thoughts, experiences, caveats, warnings, OR jokes?
