Never overestimate the public.

Also remember that 97.85% of all college professors who use stastics make them up as they go. Holds true for most true believers....

And where did you get that 97.85% number from ? I would respectfully suggest that college professors are not the only ones making up statistics...

Right around the same number that believe humans are causing/have the power to reverse global warming. Coincidence?

There is also a similar split between those who voted for Bush and those who voted against him. Correlation ?

So, can we safely say that those are the same 50% who beleive:

1- That the earth was created 7,000 years ago in 7 days
2- That burning fossil fuels is good for the environment
3- That global warming is part of a natural cycle and there is nothing to do about it, especially not stop wasting energy.
4- That Saddam and Osama Bin Laden were meeting on a regular basis on how to destroy the USA.
5- That all islamists in the world have the goal of invading the USA.
6- That all college professors are liberal liars, and education is useless anyways. All a good man needs is a pick-up truck, a bible and a rifle

No; no it can't be true. The study results are provocative, and do not pass the pale . .. it is obviously flawed.

Said professor will need MORE FUNDING to investigate. .. . of course.

Doesn't quite add up does it? I think the percentage of US citizen who suscribe to religion(s) is over 90%, and that's leaving aside those who worship rocks and spaceships. SO the conclusion I draw from this thread thus far is that ~40% of church attendees in the US are college professors doing research to prove that all liberals are athiests.

What about the Christians like me, who understand the first several books of the Bible to be highly allegorical and not to be interpreted literally? Which side am I on.

I'd suspect that even among people who claim the title "Creationist," relatively few are as conservative as I am, holding to the literal text.

Creationism is a rather silly thought - but consider this, it is very possible that the first self replicating molecule capable of a very simple form of evolution may have been assembled in a solid state environment - or in simple terms; life began in clay!

No, thinking that a bunch a random pieces assembled themselves into an ordered universe is a silly thought. Sort of like the contents of the salvage yard turning into a space shuttle in a few million years.

No disrespect, I hope none was taken.
There is a big difference between metal atoms assembling themselves in order to replicate, manipulate and metabolize. The science just doesn't work out. Organic assembly on the otherhand is very feasible. I taught a course in biogenisis years ago that, though complicated, spells it out rather nicely. Now, that being said, is there a God that created this? Well, it is a very Western way to think of God as a mechanic or technician of sorts, but if you condiser God in a bit of a different light, prehaps a much more abstract consideration based on the very spirit and soul, both creationism (the making of the human soul and not the human body) and evolution (bio-mechanics) can co-exist. They both have their places.

Does creationism explain who, or what, created God ?

About 90% of the world believes that God exists in one form or another. I think it's the minority 10% that have the burden of proving that he doesn't exist.

I stumbled upon an interesting quote on this topic:
Quote:
The distinguished astronomer Sir Frederick Hoyle showed how amino acids randomly coming together in a human cell is mathematically absurd. Sir Hoyle illustrated the weakness of "chance" with the following analogy. "What are the chances that a tornado might blow through a junkyard containing all the parts of a 747, accidentally assemble them into a plane, and leave it ready for take-off? The possibilities are so small as to be negligible even if a tornado were to blow through enough junkyards to fill the whole universe!"
