Yours won on style! Anybody can hit a slab of pine with a plane and slap wheels on it - but yours is display worthy. Belongs on the mantle.

Here's a 962 I did for my son. He won Best Design for AWANAs at our church.

I took a lot of ribbing from the other fathers but we had lots of fun working on it.

I thought I was serious!

Did you find a model to get the stickers and wing?

I shaped the wing and supports from a wooden paint paddle. I found a sticker kit for a 956/962 car through an on-line model shop. The hardest part by far was the paint - four colors with sanding and taping in between to get the right look. We used some Lego pieces for the rear tail lights.

I pulled the photo of the web, printed it and mounted it on cardboard and held it on the base with a couple of screws - the screws are just tight enough to hold the picture against the base but allow for removal. The base is made from MDF with several coats of gloss black (the stuff is great, it takes finishes very well) and two metal pins that insert into the bottom of the car to hold it secure on the stand.

We then made a case out of a tennis shoe box and fitted some black foam inserts to hold the car, the base, and the photo backdrop. With the shoebox painted black, it all fit really nicely into the case (which had a handle). He walked in, took it out of the case and set it on the stand, and then put up the backdrop. It blew them away! So much fun! He still has it on his headboard and will probably keep it forever.
