I know this borders on religion, but...Car and Driver has put the V1 on top for as long as I can remember. I have owned a V1 for 8 years now, and I have actually turned around to head back home because I've forgotten it. It's that good. It has probably REALLY saved me 4-5 times (as opposed to just pointing out a cop who would not have pulled me over anyway). Even so, I think it's paid for itself.
One more thing - if any of the reviews your friend is reading are from radartest.com, I'd disregard them. The site is run by someone who has it in for Valentine, and I would call him a shill. My 2 cents.

Yeah Radartest.com is a sham, if not a scam.
I can believe that the other manufacturers have improved a lot over the years. The bar that the Valentine One set was quite high. If it was 300% better than anything else ten years ago, maybe it's only 50% better now. Now if Mike Valentine could figure out how to filter out grocery store automatic doors and Chevy SUV taillights... ![]() |

thanks for the input so far. I also consider the Val 1 to be a top level detector. however, I don't have all the practical knowledge about either detector to make an argument for my friend other than one based on technical comparisons. question for those of you that had a chance to work with either: what are some of the real-world reasons why one is actually better than the other? what did you like about them? what not? why would you choose one over the other? thanks again for the help

V-1 is plenty good. The directional becomes a hook to being a V-1 only guy.

..as always if you want info, do a search... This topic's been done to death here...
BTW, You'd have to pry the V-1 out of my cold dead hands before I switch.

I should get one for my wife, she just got a ticket for going 58 in a 45. I call it bull***** but at least it gives me ammo on someone who is perfect in her own eyes!
Last I priced the V1 it was $300+ is tha about right?
