ouch...the pounding rain/hail...when will it stop?!?

I am really dumbfounded by the amount of crap that SoCal is taking this "winter". I have lived here about 2 years now and I'm wondering if this is more normal than I might imagine? Last year was NOTHING like this....but that is my only compraison. In all my years of t-storms and snow/sleet in the midwest, this still is surprising to me. maybe i'm asking too much of SoCal?

Here is a recent article...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1109056364.jpg
and the worst part, just when i thought the canyon roads were finally going to be nice and clean again, now there are more mudslides and they might be closed down again...

also....anyones car get pelted with the HAIL?! i gladly spent president's day inside and my car was safely in the garage. I also have friends who are battling flooding in their houses, apartments, my windows are leaking all down the walls, and of course there is no more dangerous place to be than on a slick wet road with SoCal drivers all around you!

oh and to any non-cali guys who read this....i'm intitled to complain about rain cause i have midwestern roots. i have been through it all, so you know i'm not just being a pu&&y.

Hey..as a former upstate New Yorker I can empathize. But ours came half the year as fluffy white stuff that just wouldn't quit.....

We have been getting the tail ends of what you guys have been living through; about double what we usually get so far this year, but we'll take it. Our AZ brethern upstate have just about had it though with torrential floods in some of the central AZ areas. One river nearly dry most of the year was running at 1/4 mile wide in some spots.

I got over 4 inches of rain at my house yesterday along with 2 hail storms. It happens all the time here, so it's not even newsworthy.

Luckily, in SoCal, you'll get back to nice weather soon enough. It'll still suck here.

Our roads and such are just not built to handle this kind of thing. If we get more than a day of rain everything starts to wash away.

Hard to feel much sympathy when you keep getting posts like this:

FWIW, the weather in Pittsburgh is just about what you have, except it lasts from December to March. It will pass.

mikester 02-22-2005 05:16 AM

Got us there. This weather is out of the ordinary and not what I pay my property taxes for. However it will ensure our ski season well into april.

Call us Floridians when you get 4 hurricanes...

mikester 02-22-2005 05:57 AM

I'm from Florida - I've been through more than my share of Hurricanes.

Hey why don't you go complain to Arnold....maybe he can do somthing about it....

What you boyz in CA are going through is a once in 40 year storm season....the last time it rained in SO CA as much in as short of time was in early 1969...March alone had nearly 30 inchs....I remember cause my dog was swimining in the garage that year....U boyz are REAL LUCKY this storm season didn't hit last year with all the fires and burned acreage...you'd have massive flooding in those areas...mudslides etc....So stop yer complaining and enjoy the liquid sunshine...it won't last forever.

We in California have a right to complain when it is anything under 65° outside and brag when it is anything better. The property values are so outrageous that the weather is included when you buy in house in Southern California. I have not driven my P-car in about a week now and both me and my car are not happy about it.

So you haven't experienced the fun of an earthquake. I wouldn't complain just yet.

Zeke 02-22-2005 11:03 AM

I, too, have lived here for all of my years save for two. One in AL and one in southern NV. Opposites AFA rain, that's for sure.

It gets wet in SoCal about once every ten years. '83 (or was it '84?), '96 and '05. If you aren't ready for some rain once in a while and an earthquake or two, you are not being realistic. **** happens.

nostatic 02-22-2005 11:25 AM

83 was wet...80 was too as I recall. Don't remember 69 (well, at least rain in that year), but I was in SD and that gets different rain amounts than LA. This isn't normal, but it isn't an apocalypse either. Wait for the earthquake...then we'll party.

SteveStromberg 02-22-2005 12:24 PM

Just Wait in Two weeks It will be Santa Anas and in the 90's

Did somebody say perpetual rain? Rains so much here that the boss has promised us the afternoon off any day it's sunny. I swear, I saw more of the sun when I was underway on a submarine! Pschaw, you SoCal'ers -- at least your weather has some variety!

Hugh R 02-22-2005 01:12 PM
