Tucker Carlson on Bill Maher
Last night I watched the replay of Bill Maher's show from Saturday night. The show had Canseco as the first guest, which was humerous as h3ll when they got into the shriveled raisin testicles stuff.
The panel was the real story. The panel had actor Tim Robins, Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, talk show host Tucker Clarson. I have to tell you, Tucker Carlson was damn near the most well spoken, well behaved and articulate I have ever seen him. I usually think he is over the top and almost diffiuclt to listen to. He made Tim Robbins appear to be as misinformed and way out there as he really is. His exchanges with Rep. Jones were not diatribes but rather well reasoned statements of fact. For once I sat in agreement with Tucker Carlson for an entire show. Scary. Some of his points of interest were: 1. He did not believe going to war in the name of instilling democracy was appropriate. However, he did believe that going to war for the stated reasons of secrurity (like Iraq before the whooops) of the nation was proper. 2. He agreed with Pres. Bush's statement that we have no intention of invading Iran but we won't forclose the idea. This demonstrates our willingness to defend ourselves in the face of the use of nukes. 3. His position on government regulated marriage (the Gov. of Arkansas came on talking about their mandatory counseling program before marriage and before divorce) was that it is a contract regulated by the government and that it was a good idea to try and prevent people from getting out of them so easily. There were others but I will spare you. I am not saying this guy is a genius or anything but if you watch the episode (no matter which side of the aisle your on) I think you will get a differnt idea of this guy. At least I did.....

Some quotes:
I was not a supporter of the invasion of Iraq, but I mean, look, the worst, most dangerous thing you can say to a country that's arming itself with nuclear weapons is we're not going to attack you under any circumstances. That's just inviting that country to do reckless things... That's what armies are for, 90% of the time, they're not to actually deploy. They're to exist as a threat to make people do what you want them to do because you could, in fact, use it. But you don't have to." – Tucker Carlson "I respect the Muslim religion and their choice not to shake hands with women." – Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones "I guess the question is, is there any kind of behavior that you can't excuse by saying, 'Oh, it's my religious belief?' No, there isn't. And at some point, we need to say, actually this is right, this is wrong; you disagree on religious grounds, tough for you." – Tucker Carlson

Bill,
Then why did we give Pakistan a pass on nuclear weapons? And why don't we scale back too? It could be interpreted by other countries that USA acts like a bully, and this is an example of us flexing our muscles and trying to control a foreign nation's policies. It's like Putin demanding Bush to scale back our Strategic Anti Ballistic Missle program. How would that fly over here (sorta speak)? Sherwood |

It was a good show. Tucker and Bill were going back and forth really well, with the other two dimwits completely out of their league. Bill Maher's very biased and vocal audience usually prefers bad one-liners to good points, but by the end Tucker was actually getting applause.

I'll have to catch this show.
Anyone remember the show (CNN?) that had Carlson and his partner interview John Stewart (Daily Show)? Stewart really had a hard on against Carlson and reamed him a new butt hole for his infotainment-type news show. Sherwood |

Sherwood:
I am not saying he is 100% righteous on all his points. I guess my point was more that I was very impressed with Tucker's ability to not act like a a-hole. I was a big fan of the way Stewart smacked him around on the cross fire show becuase Tucker acted like a snit. But on this episode I found myself nodding my head with him the whole time.
