Need internet biz help-basic

Let say I want a domain name mostly for e-mail purposes for my business. Is it as simple as going to a place like this?:

domain vendor

I sign up under, say-"Sebring77.com" and from there on I can have a website with e-mail? Then would send me e-mail at Bob@Sebring77.com?

Basic, but I'm a dummy. Thanks

Many services offer Domain "parking" with Email only service. You don't need to purchase full blown services that would accomodate a website.

I'd try to stick with a big name. Here's one example for $8.95 per month:

"Yahoo! GeoCities Pro
GeoCities Pro is ideal for building a personal web site for the first time - with your own domain name, email and subdomains.

Personalize Your Web Site
• A domain name "www.your-name.com" that makes your site easy to find
• Multiple subdomains so you can create special areas like "music.your-name.com"
• Multiple email accounts for you and your friends to use
• Complete package details"

Yup. You'll need someone to host the domain/site, etc. I think godaddy does all that. Also, check out 1and1.com - my boss just chose them for hosting, they seem to have a very good reputation.

Personally, I run my own mail/web/dns server off my dsl line at home, and just pay for the domain name.

Snip...

For $8.00/ Mo I get 500 email addresses per domain, 500MB storage and 50GB transfer.
I'd shop around a little. Some places, maybe Yahoo, I don't know, will also plug their own services on your dime.

DHoward, What service offers all that for $8.95. A Colleague here is in the market. Thanks!

EDIT: Just went with 1to1...looks to be a nice deal for the money. Thanks again.

E-mail Jerry St. Germaine. Web hosting is one of his many businesses....including Porsches! He'll set you up.

I use 1and 1 these days. Service has been 1st rate so far and they give good bang for the buck.
