Non-Porsche trannie noise
My DB4 Aston Martin is making tranny noises, at about 4,000 rpm it starts making noise (vibrating, hammering, etc.) and get worse with increased rpm. I think its the captive ball bearings on the front and rear of the main shaft of the tranny. My Aston parts guys says change the univeral joints first, which makes sense, they're cheap. So I'm going to try that first, they may be torqued, and bent. But when its at 4000 rpm in any gear, I think its the tranny bearings going eliptical. Don't know why I'm posting here, except the Aston Martin board has like one post per week. BTW, they're 44 year old univeral joints as far as I can tell, can't hurt anyway.

I'd say you're thinking clearly on that. A U-joint would be very speed dependent. When bearings go, not only do they make noise, but the gears don't mesh as they should . . . all kinds of noises happen. Also, i've had a clutch pressure-plate be responsible for vibrating/hammering noises at rev's. |
Hey Glenn:
Thanks for the feedback. I'll be trying my Island911 valve adjusting tool in a few weeks. Thanks again. |
