Porsche Bicycles

I bought a ton of Porsche stuff from the PO of my 944, and among the items is a shirt that says "Porsche Bikes" on the front, and has a picture of some Porsche bicycles on the back.

Does anyone have info on these bicycles? I'm going to need a bicycle when I move to the city, and if I'm going to have one, it might as well be a Porsche

Porsche bikes like their sibling cars, are over priced. Unless your an avid off road mountian biker, you should pay less and get a more reasonable bike.

Still, as a person who rides his bike daily I would love to be able to say my bike is a Porsche.

I've been reading more about 'em and i think you're right... seems like mostly a novelty thing. Besides, the $1200+ could go towards 944 or 914 parts

Yes, for potential failure of carbon fiber parts. Handle bars and seat post, I believe.

Brand name stuff.

Ferrari makes a bike too - for $10,000.

I was looking around at computer websites the other day and found that Porsche is now designing cases for hard drives.

Porsche bikes have been available for several years. There are many different types available, but the best known are the FS series mtn bikes ($4000+). The bikes are outsourced (although I don't know who actually makes them). The prices are higher than comparable bikes from known cycle manufacturers. Porsche also 'make' snow skis. Actually, they're made by German-manufacturer Volkl and are re-skinned versions of their P50 and 5Star models. I bought a year old used pair with Marker Motion bindings on eBay for around $100 ($1200 retail!). Used them in Utah last week for the 1st time and they were awesome. The bikes are frequently on eBay but at not much of a discount for some reason.

Its worse - the "Ferrari" Colnago really is more or less just a branding exercise all around ... its the first Colnago mountain bike I've ever seen (normally they make $5000 road bikes).

Colnago has made mtn bikes for some time...just not very many and they aren't very good. I remember seeing them in the late 80's when the mtn bike boom was in full swing. The Porsche bikes blow. Ultimate poseur bike. As I recall it was a URT design. blech...

Really - shows what little I know!

They must have a pretty low profile - so they can't be very good.

Ultimate poser bicycle for those with "all the gear, and no idea"! You can do better for the same money...

Cheers!

You can throw BMW into the mix as well. from $200 for the kids bike to $4k for other models.
