G9Girl Mobile
OK, so maybe not the hottest of topics here in OT, but I just finished this mobile which is a miniature version of one component in our merchandising plan as part of our presentation to get into Macy's. It's very cool in person.
Sounds simple: print some images out, spray tack them onto foamboard, insert little pins with eyes, tie them all together with flower arrangement rods and fishing line. 5 hours later... and very tough to get a good shot:

Very inventive!
Now to catch on like American Girl. Do you use them as an example of the market potential?

Very nice. Selling smarts instead of sex to our young ladies. About time.

Moses, yup, it's all about self-esteem and girl power coming from what's inside rather than how much you can show on the outside. Macy's has got to like this message (they did at the show), but even more how we will drive moms and their daughters into stores.

Neat. That's very creative. At least I think it is. I haven't been to a clothing store in 12 years.

Is that for an in-store display?
I'm sure you already have but you should do a comprehensive walk through of any retail location that you are going after to see what they customarily allow. You know a lot of retailors will not take anything that hangs and moves for a variety of reasons. Mainly when the HVAC kicks in the stuff sets off motion detectors. I've been following the G9 project, seems real interesting. Good luck. Scott

Scott, thanks for this insight. Macy's (Director, Vendor Development) loved the idea of the mobile when we talked at the show, but I'd bet she wouldn't be familiar with the subtleties of merchandising as you've noted.
Smaller stores, owners, liked it too, so perhaps they don't have such concerns. Any store with a $1000 or greater first order gets a mobile and a few other merchandising aids. Our whole charm concept needs a bit of signage to message properly. I'm shopping today to check out Macy's in downtown Boston, the Natick store was disappointing. Dropping this off tomorrow in NY to Macy's with a letter explaining all the reasons they should grant us a presentation meeting.
