The end of abortion?

Representative Brian Duprey (a Republican) has submitted a bill that would make it illegal to abort a baby if it is found to carry the 'gay gene.' This gay gene hasn't been found yet, but in the event that a gene is found that leads to homosexuallity later in life, Duprey wants to make sure that the parents can't abort the baby.

What a stroke of genius! If this passes, it'd be easy to fight for equal protection of those without this gay gene (i.e. straight babies).

Who is going to fight against this law? Killing a baby on the basis of it being gay would be a hate crime, right? We can't have that! Gays certainly don't want to know that babies carrying the gay gene would have the possibility of being aborted, so they're on our side now. The only people left out there are the pro-abortionists.

Check out the article here: http://magic-city-news.com/article_3173.shtml

It's genius, genius I tell you!

That is, without question, one of the silliest, and most politically irresponsible, actions I have ever heard.

The Constitution, even a state constitution, is not a plaything to be fooled with by rabid politicians WHETHER PRO- OR ANTI- ABORTION.

This kind of GARBAGE does nothing to advance the abortion debate, or the gay rights debate. It polarizes and wastes time and taxpayer money.

Do they have a dunce hat in Augusta?

How about just making gene testing in fetus' illegal? I'm sure insurance companies would love to have this information.

Leave the whole gay and abortion issues out of it.

Where the boundaries of a woman's body starts, is where my right to interfere (without her explicit consent ;) ) stops.

vash 03-02-2005 08:42 AM

spend the funding on finding the friggen CANCER gene.

juanbenae 03-02-2005 09:03 AM

you say this guy is a republican? noooo way!

ubiquity0 03-02-2005 09:08 AM

Your tax dollars hard at work.

nostatic 03-02-2005 09:13 AM

Its nice he thinks that serious issues concerning a woman's body are just a big game/joke.

Can anyone say "recall election"?

M.D. Holloway 03-02-2005 10:31 AM

What about he pigment gene? The baby would have one of those right? If they baby was of African American line than killing it would be a race crime as well no?

cowtown 03-02-2005 10:37 AM

An incredibly stupid move strategically, given that Republicans always argue that being gay is a "learned behavior." That's the whole basis of their argument against gays.

I see.... Protect the Constitution, protect the taxpayers, protect the mother's body, protect everything....well, everything except the baby, I suppose.

Randy

edit> OOOPS! Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone....if it suits you, feel free to substitute the word "baby" with "fetus"...

M.D. Holloway 03-02-2005 11:32 AM

simple solution - just don't kill babies anymore, born or unborn.

Clowd 03-02-2005 12:21 PM

What the? This is maybe the stupidest thing I've seen yet.. what if someone wants to get an abortion, and their baby happens to have this supposed "gay gene" (what the **** is with that, anyway?!) ?

I'm absolutely sick of people trying to tell women what they can and can't do.

Jeff Higgins 03-02-2005 12:28 PM

Jeffrey Dahlmer, Ted Bundy, and other like minded individuals were probably sick and tired of others telling them what to do, too. Murder is murder regardless of the age of the victim or semantics of baby vs. fetus.

lendaddy 03-02-2005 12:30 PM

Shouldn't the woman have the "right" to kill a gay baby err fetus?

I mean it's all about HER rights isn't it?

BTW, I heard this guy on the radio the other day and he IS serious.

lendaddy 03-02-2005 12:34 PM

You know what, I was just thinking that with abortion on demand and genetic testing we could really be one generation away from Gattica!

"Hey Bob how goes the gettin-peggo thing"

"Not so good Dave, we're on our eigth fetus now. Here's hopin for blond haired blue-eyed boy, Susan says these abortions really take their toll after a half dozen or so".

CamB 03-02-2005 12:45 PM

The whole premise gets a WTF from me.

A very, very good point.

If you can't cure someone, because their "affliction" is gene-based, does that mean they should be allowed to marry.

LOL, I figured this thread didn't have enough inflammatory stuff in it yet.

M.D. Holloway 03-02-2005 02:51 PM

Simple solution - do away with marrage. You want to marry, great, no benefits to being married other than a moral and ethical commitment, keep it religious only - take the fiacal variable out of it entirely. Problem solved.
