How many Nascar shows can there be in one night?

JIMINY CHRISTMAS PEOPLE!!!
How many times must you rehash the same old crap-A$$ race?
Is the SPEED Channel on the Nascar payroll?
Sorry, rant over.
At least the F1 season starts this weekend...and the Grand AM Cup...and the Rolex SCSeries...whew. There is hope.:D

I seem to remember hearing/reading that there was some financial interest there.

bluebullet 03-02-2005 09:27 PM

lousy rednecks. thanks to them the real speed channel is gone.....

84porsche 03-02-2005 10:24 PM

Somebody might have missed that race on Sunday and they need to analyze every angle. Every sport does it except Nascar uses the Speed Channel. Car racing is incredible and I am big fan of Nascar. Many people say the sport is a joke and the drivers are always making left turns. It takes alot to setup those cars for each track and for a driver to handle a different track every week. He probably has to have a photographic memory so he knows which line to drive. I agree that the Speed Channel needs to offer less Nascar and more other types of racing but in my opinion it is better than Tuner Transformation. But besides that, I am not going to change your opinions. By the way here are a few pics from the race at California Speedway.

It would be more entertaining if they were real stock cars running on sand and dirt tracks like they did in the beginning...

asphaltgambler 03-03-2005 04:50 AM

I f----ing HATE nascar. I almost never see drag racing anymore. And to be honest, I see more bump and grind action on the beltway around DC than on TV!

rcm 03-03-2005 04:57 AM

The Speed channel is owned in part by one of the Bill France companies.

asphaltgambler 03-03-2005 05:04 AM

Maybe that's why I never, ever see NHRA drag racing any more. Just a few IHRA events. Too sad.

turbo6bar 03-03-2005 05:18 AM

NHRA is on ESPN, dude. Coverage was this past Sunday evening.

I have grown to appreciate NASCAR - mostly because of my friend who is a big fan. While my track driving style doesn't include dump drafing and such, I do have a lot of respect for folks that spend hours going 180mph side by side lap after lap.

NASCAR does require skill and IS a real motorsport - it's just not what most Porsche owners migrate to.

84Porsche: any details on the truck pic?

-Z.

84porsche 03-03-2005 07:58 AM

Z,

It was Dale Jarrett's introduction, I believe. It was hard to tell from where I was sitting. It was part of the "we want to race the truck" thing. The rest came out in Chevy SSRs.

Funny, I turned on Speed for a few minutes the other night and just started shaking my head. They were following a pit crew guy around while he cleaned up the shop. Wow, talk about exciting. Remember Legends of Motorsports? Or the old 60's car shows? That was good television!

coolbeverage 03-03-2005 12:47 PM

Remember when Speed used to show WRC, F1, CART, and other forms of racing besides NASCAR? Now the only other form of racing on there is BUSH...Oh GREAT.....wannabe NASCAR drivers

Oh Haha 03-03-2005 03:05 PM

Legends of Motorsport is on Sunday mornings at 7:30, right after Fifth Gear. I can respect the Nascar drivers as it IS hard work. I just would rather see more coverage of the "less popular " motorsports.
Must be the cabin fever thing. I would actually prefer to be out driving my car.

JSDSKI 03-03-2005 04:23 PM

Let's see. From 7-12 is five hours. So that means there's just enough time for five 1 hour recap shows, or ten 30 minute "up close and personals", or maybe just two 2 and 1/2 hour talk shows.... Mix and match as you see fit. I guess there are people who just leave it on in the background like Nascar muzak. I mean, I'm crazy for F1 and Porsche's, but I can't watch two or three hours of it every night.

I wish there was more variety - but it's all about ratings and advertising -the team budgets get boosted based on air time and these shows count as "air-time".

I've started to get hooked on the WRC thing now - anybody else?

turbo6bar 03-03-2005 04:33 PM

WRC rocks!!!!!

pwd72s 03-03-2005 06:08 PM

My wife wants cable or dish. As a gearhead, all that you guys just said convinces me that whatever we pull in, through our roof antennae, all 5 or 6 stations, isn't a hell of a lot worse than being able to surf away through 200...because it's mostly crap. So...why are you paying $50 per month or so for KRAP???

dafischer 03-03-2005 06:19 PM

Nascar...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1109906312.jpg

Need I say more?

david914 03-03-2005 06:25 PM

I still don't understand why they changed the name from Speedvision. Was it too big a word for redneck NASCAR fans to remember?...

pwd72s 03-03-2005 06:34 PM

Yep...no cable or dish for me. Now, think about it...is it the NASCAR fans getting what they want who are backwards? Or, could it be you who still pay good money for a cable channel you no longer like to watch?
