 Whatever happened to Satch Carlson?

The guy that used to write humorous pieces for AutoWeek back in the late '80s? He was "let go" from AutoWeek amid some controversy, but I never knew why.
I saw that he is still alive and well in the Idaho/MT (?) area not too long ago and it reminded me... Anybody know the story? Mike |

If I remember right and if my info is right, it was along the same lines as Micheal Jackson.
Please don't sue me if I'm wrong. I'll remove this if I am. |

His columns in Autoweek back when it was a newspaper were fantastic. I haven't belonged to BMWCCA for a few years, but he used to write (and edit for awhile, I believe) for Roundel. Is he still there? Tim |

Yes, he is the editor for Roundel and he is doing a very good job with it.

Satch was my 9th grade English teacher in Anchorage, Alaska. As was previously inferred, the "incident" involved a student of his. Satch was the "coolest" of teachers. Drove a couple of late 70's era Lotus Esprits and would reminisce about the virtues of the Saab Sonnett. Great guy, bad judgment.

Thanks for filling me in, everyone... Mike |

I also remember this scandal. The charges were eventually dropped. Satch claimed it was on over-aggressive DA during an election year trying to make a name for himself. Did it really happen? Who knows, but the damage was done.
I met him at the GP of Mexico about 15 years ago. Really interesting guy. |

It happened... Satch was let go from the school and I believe the girl transferred very shortly thereafter. Satch was "our " celebrity and it was all anyone could talk about for a few months.

Evidently it had an effect on rsrfan, relocating from Anchorage, AK to Las Vegas NV to change the "scenery" and escape the horror.
