Mini SUV

I kinda like the new Mini. They look good and I guess they're fun to drive. But this looks ridiculous - a proposal for an 'SUV' version. What are they thinkin or, better yet, what are they smokin?

It is definately bit more than odd looking but I kinda like it.

Gotta get rid of the faux wood panels and grab handle. Like to see it in another color.

Looks like it'd make a fun rally ride.

Plus the "rumble seat" would be great for the dog especially after a romp in the ocean.

Hey I see in your sig that you sold the pepper. How many miles did you end up putting on it and what did you replace it with...the M3? Any parting comments on the pepper?

cegerer 03-13-2005 08:04 AM

77,500 miles was the final tally  Came close to buying another but made the mistake of test driving the M3 ..... ;)

Final analysis of the pepper: the best all-around, all-weather vehicle I've ever owned or driven. Problems? A few:

1. They eat tires. It was on its 4th set when I sold it!

2. Brake squeal problem early on. Complete new brakes/rotors/etc. under warranty. Problem solved.

3. Driveline vibration. Replaced intermediate shaft under warranty. Helped substantially, but still had a subtle vibration, especially when cold. The brand new Audi S4 I test drove recently had a similar thing going on.

4. Intermittent radio problems. They replaced the unit twice under warranty.

5. Water pump failure. Replaced under warranty.

That's about it. I'd buy another for sure, but glad to be in the M3 - what a rocket. Plus, it's like driving a stealth vehicle compared to the Pepper. Nobody notices it except for kids who know M3's from video games.

I think this is the look they're going for:

I think I have a woody!

cegerer 03-13-2005 10:36 AM

Thom - is that legit or a custom?

widebody911 03-13-2005 02:08 PM

It's legit, it was known as the "Traveller"

350HP930 03-13-2005 03:15 PM

That looks like the most inane design I have seen in the longest time.

What could you seriously fit in that 'cargo' area? One suitcase or a couple bags of groceries?

klaucke 03-13-2005 03:15 PM

Cegerer, your PM box is full. I tried sending you my address. (sorry not meant to hijack)

layzee 03-13-2005 03:25 PM

No way that is real. I highly doubt BMW want to lessen the ultracool MINI brand with traveller-esque wood paneling.

928ram 03-13-2005 03:26 PM

Did any of you seen the episode of Monster Garage where Jesse & crew turn a Chevy into a Zamboni?? This Mini looks like that; like you're supposed to stand and steer from the back.

The same crack Porsche was smoking when they decided to rebrand a Toureg :D

I don't think the Cayenne is a rebranded Toureg. I think they co-developed it. A friend of mine has an S with the airbag suspension, and that thing kicks.

No I believe it was called a "Clubman"and the Clubman Estate. The Morris Minor wagon was called The Traveler.

targa911S 03-15-2005 07:27 AM

I misposted this as it's own thread ..but here is a Clubman Estate ...non woody.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1110904042.jpg
