Things to do in Indy?

I'm here on biz. I've never been to Indianapolis before. Any tips? Tia.

Go to St. Elmos for steak. Be sure to try the shrimp cocktail..one of the best steak houses in the country.

It sounds obvious, but visit the track. They have a great museum, and they also have a 'bus' that will take you on a lap of the oval.

I'd go see my old house. I used to live in Speedway. :>)

I lived there for a few years - St Elmos is great, close to the Rock Bottom Brewery, good beer, better servers! Have a few there and walk to Elmos. Bring money they are high (we are talking Morton Steak house prices). Saw the pacers a few times - always a good time. Tickets easy to get via scalpers. Tough to get lost in that city - has a loop that circles the entire city and all roads spoke to the center. You should go to the track like kaisen suggests.

There's always the museum at the speedway. Worthwhile if you have the time. Tons of great bars and restaurants downtown if you like expensive stuff. My favorite place is Broadripple (about 15 mins north of downtown). There are around 60 bars or bar/restaurants within a square mile. Lots of unique restaurants there too. Of course I live in Broadripple so I'm biased. If you want to look at some old Porsches and exotic cars you can check out Ooley & Blackburn in Carmel (www.ooley-blackburn.com). It’s funny, I’ve lived here all my life and love this town because there is so much to do here, but whenever someone asks what to do, and I draw a blank. How long are you here?

Oh yea, I think the Pacers play tonight, and the NCAA tournament starts here on Thursday.

Hey, have a great time while you're here. The roads are not too good yet for the P-car to get out, salt you know. Like they say, lots of stuff downtown, great museum at the speedway. I'll see you this summer in Elkhart Lake, and I already know what to do in that town: race, eat, drink, and have lots of fun.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm here till Friday. So far we hit (not my call, I'm being dragged around by those "in the know") Ruth's Chris steak house. That was pretty good. Nice filet and some Rodney Strong Cab-tasty! Last night we were in Broadripple. More fun. Tonight, St. Patrick's night...who knows? My aching braincells.:(

So far no time for the Indy museum. I hope to check it out Friday.

Strupgolf-definitely let me know when you're in town. You are correct on the itinerary:). There are a few Pelicans that attend.

Is the 'Rafters' still around? Strip joint across from the track. I think it was a converted warehouse, but the strippers would swing from the rafters. Fun place on the night before the 500 ......

Lol-I'll find out tonight it seems.
