Name the Dog Contest

O.k. everyone, I need your help. I'm picking up a new puppy in about six weeks or so. It's a female Golden Retriever. There is kind of a story here, but I will try to make it short. My ten year old male Golden, Scout, tragically passed away last summer. I looked high and low to re-connect with the breeders that owned his sire and finally found them. It turns out the sire is still alive, now 14 years old. It also turns out they were breeding one of his grand daughters, so I think that would make her on of Scout's nieces. Anyway, the puppy was born last week. That's right; just one. She was the first one out and then her big brother, too big to pass through the birth canal, stopped the whole show. The rest of the litter tragically died behind him. This little gal is the only survivor. Mom made it after a rather hasty c-section to try to save the rest of the litter, but it was to no avail. Now this little gal needs a name, and I need ideas. The only prize in this contest is knowing you helped name one lucky little girl. Oh, and I'll be out to see her on Tuesday, so I should have some photos after that. Thanks for your help, everyone.

My favorite dog name is Deogee. (say D,O,G).

Well if the pup were a male I'd suggest Victor. Victoria doesn't quite have the punch for a pup.

What name would you feel comfortable yelling down the street in the middle of the night? The wrong one might lead to..;)

How about:

1) Lifesaver
2) Horseshoe
3) Unique
4) Lucky (From 101 Dalmations, the one they thought was dead and lived after all)

Maybe...

"Brave" in Scout's honor.
Scout's birthmonth if its nameworthy like "April", "May" or "June".
"Queue" or "Q" since she queued up first at birth.
Or, the day she was born like "seven" if it was the seventh. (Reference to Seinfeld.)

Good luck with your new pup!

"Legacy" - The survivor of the group and a wonderful representative from the line of your dog that passed. Looking forward to seeing a picture....

Very dark copper, almost Irish Setter red when they grow up. She is probably pretty blonde right now, though. I'll find out on Tuesday when I see her for the first time. A lot of people thought Scout, and his dad Maverick, were Setter mixes. The field lines of Goldens tend to have darker, shorter coats, where the show lines have longer, flowing blond coats.
