Need good HR software, small company

I have less than 50 employees, and I need a program to track attendance, vacation days, Bonus days (free day off per quarter for not f'n up) etc... If it also contains other junk great, but really that's all I need. I use to use a program by Selectform called "Selectime" and it was fine, but it ran out of years on the calander and they stopped supporting it. They replaced it with "Metronome" which sucks monkey balls, it is so horrible I just threw it away. Any advice.

Probably overkill for you, but have you looked at Abra by Best Software?

Thanks guys, those still look more involved than required. I know I don't have to use all the features (job tracking, payroll, clocking, etc.. are all useless to me). I was hoping one of you fine businessmen would have a program you liked for basic employee info.

Finding single purpose programs is getting more difficult. The trend has been for some time to go "fearture rich." You might see if you can find someone to do a quick programing job for you based on a VB frontend with a light weight DB (like Access) backend. It will probably come close to what one of the commercial packages costs, but at least it will be taylored to your needs.

Actually, PM me if you want to look at this idea. One of the 930 guys I know is an independent SQL programer and may be able to help. No affiliation with him, the thought just hit me.

Thanks Hal,

But to put in in perspective, I think Selectime was $125(loved it) and Metronome was $220 (pile of steaming dung). Although I would be happy to pay a few hundred for something, I'll do it on paper for anything near a grand. I doubt I could have custom software done for a couple hundred. No?

Depending on your exact needs, custom software for a few hundred is easily do-able. I just setup a Linux based fax server for a small insurance office, software is free (and Free) and I just charge my time to configure, etc. I could do a web-based (with a sql back end) setup for you possibly... drop me a pm if you want to discuss it.

Thanks guys I will give it some thought. I wont lie, I would prefer some prepackaged stuff if possible (just for support if nothing else). Hmmm.

lendaddy,
I have done two attandance tracking programs for local companies and they continuously praise me for how much easier things are now. The platform is the ever available EXCEL using Visual Basic. I would be happy to send you one to review to possibly give you some ideas.

PeopleSoft. Just kidding.

I worked for a small company a few years ago that bought PeopleSoft. Absolutely incredible software, but not exactly for a small company. Best thing that ever happened to my career.

Before PeopleSoft we used a unix based system called Intersoft that was cheap to license and maintain in comparison. Intersoft is still being sold, IIRC.

Quick books has a payroll module - I have also used a product called "smartclock" but that is an electronic time and attendance that hooks to your computer.

Here's a list of vendors that provide different levels of service

I run a temporary help company - and have a sister company that is a professional employer organization. They buy benefits in mass and distribute to their client companies...

Daryl,

That would be interesting to see! Could you e-mail me some type of demo?

Jeremy,

I have and use quickbooks now, I have a payroll service so I don't use that option. All I want is a program to track attendance/vaction time/ etc..
