Ultimate Political comic thread
Okay-maybe it won't be so ultimate, but seein's how everything boils down to politics here, I thought might as well make it fun. I enjoy seeing comics that pan all politics-not just GW, but he just seems to be a natural.

Right...and who was that guy who would bang a piano, and sing stupid songs on PBS? Bottom line: If you wish to be a political cartoonist in the "mainstream media" market? You'd damned well better be wayyyy left of center in what you draw. The dirty little secret? Thanks to cyberspace and talk radio, the "mainstream" print press suffers declining readership numbers in pretty much the same %ages as the TV networks "nightly liberal views" suffers a decline in viewers. As an example? It's 6:34 PM on the left coast as I write this...my TV is OFF!

Ok, pwd, show me something humorous that is drawn from a conservative point of view. I'm not saying you can't; I'd just like to see some conservative humor.

But, you see...this strip was dropped by our state's ONLY large newspaper, THE OREGONIAN, aka/ the daily fish wrapper, the Portland yellow pages...while Doonesbury is the biggest (meaning largest visually, top of the regular comics page) The editor said MALLARD wasn't funny. Of course, the same person described Doonesbury as relevant. This paper simply doesn't have the guts to publish Mallard...not even on it's editorial page. This strip is the ONLY reason I subscribe to a downstate small paper. The ONLY reason I subscribe to the Portland Yellow Pages? The classified P-car ads... but over half seem to be Boxsters lately, so I'm about to cancel...

pwd,
Been checking out the Mallard archives. Sorry, I gotta go along with the editor. The overall tone I find humourless, and often, as with the toon below, simply off the mark. OTOH, I can't put up with Doonesbury too much, either. ![]() Ed |

OREGONIAN, 1320 sw broadway, Portland Oregon...seems to me you'd fit right in on their editorial board...BTW, you're great at out of context use to make a point. Maybe you should consider political office? Hillary! may have an internship opening...

Out of context? Out of context? We don't need no stinking out of context! I pulled an example from your suggested poli-cartoonist, and said it was off the mark. Other toons, not posted, I thought were just generally unfunny. I'm not saying they were without a point, but the point was being made, through the device of a ranting duck, without much humor. Much like your suggestion that I am fit to run for political office or sit on a newspaper's editorial board. That's just good ole sarcasm.

Oh come on, people -- enough with the chatter -- post cartoons already!

Ok-I'm on a mission to find good right political cartoons. Kerry was certainly a good target too. Just a bit passe' now.
Agreed-Mallard came of like a cartoon version of Rush-too creepy. |
