Subie outback as a daily driver
 

Anyone here own one? I've got a line on a 2005 demo, with only 4000 miles on the clock for around $17K. Seems like a nice car...

I'm a bit apprehensive about a "wagon" for daily use, will I get mercilessly teased? Can my manhood take it? My volvo is just starting to push me over the edge in the reliability department....

What version of Outback wagon? Engine?

I rented a 05 Outback while on a 3 day break. It was the LL Bean version (loaded). I was very very impressed. At a minimum I would definitely get the 250hp engine and leather interior. The wagon makes tons of sense and with the engine you can dust anyone who laughs.

My wife drives an 02 Outback Wagon and that car has me sold. Subaru will be at the top of the list when I replace my VW

My wagon rocks after 151k miles. Wagons may not be pretty, but they are handy for long trips, hauling gear, etc..plus the all wheel drive is a plus. If anyone gives you crap..just remember your SC is waiting for you and let that be your therapy.

I bought a Subie Impreza wagon (the 2.5RS, not the WRX) for daily driver. The thing is absolutely awesome. Wagons rock, and so far (1800 miles) I'm really impressed with the car, especially in the recent lousy weather we've been having.

Why would anyone give you crap for driving a Subie wagon? It's not a minivan or anything...

When we gave our 1992 Volvo 740 with 288k miles, and in nearly perfect condition to our neighbors, we bought a new V70. But we almost bought the Subaru Outback Wagon until we had a bad afternoon with one of the high pressure salemen at the local Subaru dealer and went down the street to the Volvo dealer.
Earlier in the year my daughter bought a new Forester. An excellent car. I do not think you can go wrong. The only drawback that I have noticed is that the interior does not last as long as a Volvo. But I keep my cars over ten years.

What is wrong with your Volvo?

Well its not the 250 horse motor it is the smaller one, is that really that bad for a daily driver?

I'm in the gen-X whose mom's drove Oldsmobile custom cruiser with the fake wood panels wagons....those were really uncool, although I learned to drive in one, and did my first parallel park between 2 cars off of Devon Avenue in Chicago (a nightmarish parking area for anyone who's never been around those parts)

Part of my brain still equates yesterday's wagons= today's mini vans....

I love the impreza line but I think they are too small for me (6'4") and a growing family....2 +1 any minute now....

I have a 1995 Legacy Sedan with 158,000 miles on the clock. Absolutely reliable, a blast to drive in the snow, and maintenance and repair costs have been extremely good: best I've ever seen.

Still feels and runs solid, and I have the meager 2.2 140-hp powerplant. Yeah, acceleration isn't the best, but I make up for it in the turns! :D

I have an 1995, 850 (so there's your 10 years) with close to 140K on the clock...to be honest it is all the little things that are making me nuts...

For example, was driving to work in the pouring rain and snow today (its late March d#$%it) just dropped of the kindergartner and suddenly my whole wiper arm is flopping next to my drivers side window....get out in the rain, try to fix it by hand, have to go home tighten it down (for the 800th time....)

Soon I'll have to do the timing belt expensive service for a car worth only $2000.....have to use the "shift-lock release" button almost evertime I go from park to a gear....and on and on....plus I'm just getting tired of it, have had it a really long time....

I had a 1993 850 and it also gave me trouble. When it needed its fourth transmission, I sold it to a mechanic at the dealership. I was under the impression that 1995 and up were good.

Yeah , sell it now and get the Subaru. My daughter has 25k miles on hers without a hitch.

My wife has been driving the Scubby since '98 - Legacy GT.

I have replaced the accessory belt, knock sensor, brake pads and an O ring in the AC unit. It has now developed an oil leak in the front half of the motor around the cam towers.

Total repairs to date over 7 years about $ 400.00 for 80,000 miles.
Not including tires.
