I remember filling my '99 Suburban in June of 2000 when gas hit $2.00+ for a little bit. 42 gallons was almost $90.
I guess now that truck would have a $100 fill ![]() E |

It was considered a vital security issue for the U.S., the unfettered supply of oil from the ME. And it is, as long as our, (and the world's), economies are held hostage by oil as an energy supply. Unfortunately, the architects of the current situation have an uncanny knack for being wrong about 99% of the time and their adventure has had about the opposite effect as planned in all areas, including the supply of oil. The current, unprecedented run-up in the price of oil is being caused almost exclusively by the fear of disruption in future supply, as opposed to any actual shortages. This is a new order, (and unbelievably profitable for oil companies and nice Arab countries), this situation simply did not exist before the botched Iraq invasion/occupation. Even after 9/11 or the Afghanistan war, nothing like this. ![]()

Isn't it like 45% taxes? If politicians really cared, they would lower the rate and give us a break.

![]() The more I hear what they pay in Europe and Asia, the less likely I am to complain about prices here. Of course, Europe's gas taxes double the price per liter. BTW: $51.60 - Malibu, CA. Not bad considering it could be $103.20 in Stuttgart or Manchester.

[Cut and pasted from Kach22i's link]: I'm tired of arguing about whether Bush is so ignorant he doesn't know that he is cutting alternative energy programs and subsidizing oil companies or so fiendishly clever that he knows and doesn't care what he says. In the end, it doesn't make any difference. You get wretched policy either way.
And as Tom Friedman recently pointed out, it would do a lot for world peace, too: "By doing nothing to lower U.S. oil consumption, we are financing both sides in the war on terrorism and strengthening the worst governments in the world. That is, we are financing the U.S. military with our tax dollars and we are financing the jihadists -- and the Saudi, Sudanese and Iranian mosques and charities that support them -- through our gasoline purchases." I'm glad that someone is saying this, but who is listening? ![]()

I don't know. The headlights distinguish it. So many bike front ends now look like Ultraman's helmet from the '60s.

I saw (driving past) $3.02.9/gal today for 91 at the "most expensive station ever", the 76 in the Malibu Cross Creek area.
