Little over 145 diving my car...
About 155 (with plenty left) driving a 512 Boxer... And about 165 when I was an 18 year old passenger, with another 18 year old driving a 1961 Ferrari 250 SWB Comp. where the Crest flattens by the power poles before HWY 14... This car won frist in GT and 3rd overall at the '61 LeMans driven by Norblet/Guichet... At the time it was a 6 year old super fast clapped-out beater race car..... The car is now in the Bruce Meyer collection.... ... and so it goes Recent pic... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads10/61gt+ferrari1171575714.jpg[/img]

Karl Troy took me about 140+ in his Ultima GTR, ON AN ON-RAMP.
And then back to 60 to meet traffic at by the end of the same ramp. HA. Trade a ride in your 911 for concert tickets? (long)

Did I mention that I have a friend (USAF Colonel, retired) who flew an F-111? He won't post here, but he also flew "other stuff". Think of only an astronaut beating his fastest, AND his highest. So I'd guess he wins here. All that said, this is probably why he's building an air races plane, while telling me he's thinking of selling his Corvette.
Land speed means nothing to flyboys. My driving 137 thru a radar trap, "documented" thusly, doesn't matter for krap, even back in 1980...

BTW guys, I'm almost 18. I've only been on the board once or twice in the past year, so it seems like there are a lot of new faces! And yes, Craig you are right. I am working part time on an average of four hours a day, four days a week to pay for insurance and help pay the car off.

As a "flyboy" who flies at over 500 mph for a living every day at high altitude, I can tell you that there is very little sensation of speed up there. Your retired USAF friend who has only been beaten by Astronauts has obviously flown much much faster but he has also done it at much much higher altitudes, which negates the sense of speed. However, in his F-111 he has no doubt flown beyond Mach 1, essentially on the deck. Now that is a different story altogether. He was skimming the ground at over 700 mph! Now THERE's a sensation of speed. Whoohoo!!
![]() Honestly, I get more of a buzz in my 996 at 130 mph on the freeway late at night than I ever do in the jet I fly for a living at 525+ mph.

Re: fastest you've ever drivin, fastest you've ever been

[B]Just wondering ?!?! What is the fastest you have ever driven a car or been in a car driven really fast. 1976 LP400, according to the speedo was 172. I got spooked when I could see the windshield glass actually distort (flex). Hit an expansion joint and figured better power it down. Good thing as the car was limited by tires. After the run I closely inspected the tires and they had a shiny blue tint to the tread blocks. (heat) 427 Cobra as a passenger on a drag run -and yes its true you cannot grab the sunvisor. Cost me 5 bucks. I asked how fast were we going? The driver said I don't know the speedo only goes to 150 and that was 5 seconds ago. I am older now. I can go 200 on my couch watching Speed Vision. No need to do that silly stuff anymore. Too much to lose when you are older and has anyone seen my insurance premium? I don't look at it I just pay the bill.

140 - 1971 Mercury Cyclone GT
130 - 1969 Pontiac Lemans 110 - In my current 911. All of these except the 911 were when I was young and dumb. I am just not in the mood to get clobbered with an expensive ticket and a court date anymore. Some day I will track the 911. I am litterally about 20 miles from Loudon Speedway, but I have never been there for any events.

120 in a my brother in law's saab when I was 16-Smooth
155 in a lightly modded audi 200 20v-mirrors are folding back and it was at that speed or so for 50 minutes! Only thing I worried about was others in front of me. I passed two cops going the other way and never sew them again ![]() 140+ in the sc the other day in a slight down hill stretch-scary as he**!(no front spoiler) 160 in a driving 101 car at Vegas motor speedway-bit of a wrestling match. A collegue is amazed that I do 90 or so every other day. He has never gone faster than that?
