145mph driving a friends 996 in Bahrain, whilst I was as drunk as a fart!
140mph in my 911 3.2 on the M6 here in UK. It had plenty more in reserve but I bottled it. Its my ambition to crack 150 on a public road here in UK, but responsibly of course!

145mph in my '78 911SC, on the Bay Bridge at 2:30am in 1990. Power slid across 3 lanes on the last turn before Oakland (you don't even notice that turn at 50 mph) bumping the rev limiter.
I'm not normally that stupid; there were extenuating circumstances.

While living and working in Germany and commuting between Frankfurt and Essen I regularly cruised at the car's (a Saab 9000) max of 250 Kph (electronically limited) which is 157/ 158 mph. It's amazing how quickly you get used to the speeds and teh amount of concentration they require; no coffee cups or non-hands free cell phones allowed here.)
Of course before doing that I had to go through a 10 week (if I remember correctly) driving course (theoretical and practical) which ended with a 2 hour written exam and a 1 hour driving test. Any error on the driving part and you get to start all over again. (Keep in mind that "any error" means that the proper way to execute a lane change is: check inside mirror, check outside mirror, look over your shoulder, THEN put on the turn signal. Anything else ist FALSCH -- ask me how I know)

)But I have averaged over 100mph on a couple of multi-hour trips!

indicated 155mph in my heavily modded 78 280Z (probably 140)
indicated 230 kph on a Yamaha RZV500 near Luckenbach, Texas chasing my buddy on his RC31 (I couldn't catch him) ~120mph in my 125 shifter kart in the pack on the banking at Texas World Speedway (that part's boring, it's turning into turn 1 at that speed without lifting that's fun).

Non airplane ???
As a driver...about 125-130 mph on the track....( little squirrely...no spoilers or wings on my Carrera). As a passenger.....175 mph ( confirmed via telemetry) in a heavily modded turbo 911 at Watkins Glen..... high pucker factor ! Hope someday to be part of the "200" club....fat chance ... - Wil

(no , I wasn't turning. Steering wheel was out of whack after wheel-alignment job. Picture was taken on motorway, speeding back to dealer so they could correct the misstake )

hit the limiter at indicated 165 mph on an SLK 32 AMG several time in Europe.
Here in the US I somewhat feel I should not push my luck with the authorities (beign a foreigner and all).. so the Carrera has been obly up to 130mph. We'll see when the 3.6 installation is done... I think the aerodynamics might still limit the car to 170... |

Matteo, if you get nailed doing 130mph in your Carrera here, it really won't matter whether Smokie got you at 160 or 120. The car will be impounded and you'll go to jail. So as long as you're gonna speed, might as well push it to the limit. I do.

So is it 100 the magic number that makes the difference between an expensive mistake and jail time?

I always thought it was double the speed limit? But then again, I've had a "65 in a 30" and only went to court...

135 in the 911
125 on the ducati - it's a monster though, so it wasn't happy going that fast (no fairings). For some reason, no one I know drives faster than me....
