Huge counterfeiting bust!
Your government at work: a man was arrested @ Best Buy for paying for a purchase with $2 bills.
It's a sign that we're all a little nervous in the post-9/11 world." WTF is that all about? 9/11 has been used to justify a lot of inane stuff, but hiding behind it in the face of the sheer idiocy of this incident is probably a new low. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/bal-md.olesker08mar08,1,76004.column?coll=bal-local-columnists&ctrack=1&cset=true

Actually Island, the best developed (original equipment) pectorals are here. But I'm told they have quite a few aftermarket units there.

Any way you could you copy and paste that article, i don't want to have to subscribe to another service....... is it that they were real $2 bills that someone thought were fake? forgive me if this assumption is incorrect, but from the posts here that would seem to be the case........
Was able to access the site from another link, am sorry to say that this isn't the first time i've heard of perfectly legitimate us currency being "determined" to be counterfeit....... The ignorance of some people is astounding, you'd be surprised how many times people have to stop and thoroughly examine a half dollar or anthony/ sacagawea because they have never seen them. Just recently a member of the soin collecting baord i visit whose wife works at a bank refused to accept a deposit of buffalo nickels because she thought they were canadian, the customer was able to sell the coins to collectors for much mnore than face. Also reminds me of another story where someone attempted to spend a $500 bill, it was at a casino if recall correctly, but refused, a collector happened to witness the attepmted transaction and was more than willing to give the man 5 $100's, and flip the note for about $800. Granted large denomination notes are very rare, and actively pulled from circulation by the fed, but they are still backed by the fed and should in theory be worth face to non-collector. Althouugh i can understand why $500 or $1000 would be refused as they are virtually not encountered by anyone unfamiliar with currency collecting, but i digress........ Counterfeit 100's this week...
Interesting timing on this thread for me...
I had a Nigerian mail me 8 fake $100 bills this week. They were stuck inside a video cassette for the trip over in the mail. They were fairly good fakes, and even had a primitive "water mark" when held up to the light. We already turned the bills over to the Secret Service, but I told the guy today when he called me (goats, children in background)we had shipped out his "product". He's expecting computer memory. Hmmm...Any ideas what we should box up and ship to him? I'm thinking turds are overdone, so I'm looking for some "fresh" ideas. I don't want to break any mail laws or regulations, just torment the guy a little.

I know of a dead snake that I found under the hood of a 67 Ford!
or, if he is expecting upgraded memory, send him some chicken brains, on second thought, he may eat them.

Well, did you specify WHICH computer the memory is for? Get something out of a really old computer.

Or make counterfeit memory out of cardboard, or balsa wood, or something. It'd almost be an entertaining weekend project to cut little pieces of wood in the shape of DIMMS, then use Testors paint to put down a green base with little square black chips, and shiny silver metal legs. It'd only take an hour or so.
![]() The enclosed note would read "Your memory should work as well in your machine as your money did in my economy."

DJ...didja ever think that Balsa wood memory might actually work on his computer? It probably would be better than any memory he has on it now...

I unknowingly tried to spend a counterfeit $20, the new style, at my local convience store. The clerk told me it was a fake. He then used "the pen" to show proof.
The next morning I went to my bank with the counterfiet bill, and was asked the first and only question. "Where did you obtain this?" From you, I withdrew $100 in $20's from this bank on Friday, and the store across the street informed me this one was bogus. ![]() I didn't even get my $20 back right away, was told they had to credit my account, and that took a few days. I never heard about it again. Also, I did have a friend in High School (mostly ran together in Jr. High) that made his own money, he eventually got caught. Crazy thing was, his family was loaded. ![]()

Send the Nigerian a picture of the memory sticks. After all, it should be a reasonable facsimile, just like his "money".

Update:
I arrived to the office today, and my phone was ringing off the hook. It was the Nigerian. I recognized his number on the phones ID display, as he calls every day. Not feeling like answering (so I could string him along), I just let it wring. He called 5 times, and I pretty much had to answer it. I just went ahead and told him to pound sand since he sent fake money. I laughed at him when he said "please send it back." "What for?" I asked..."I'm certain you'll print more - just quit calling me - you get nothing. Adios!" and I hung up. He hasn't called back. I usually deal with 2 or 3 Nigerians a week trying to swindle product, usually with stolen credit cards. I get those and shut them down by notifying the issuing banks. This is the first time someone sent counterfeit money.
