And it begins
I've always wanted a black car, and somehow whenever I'm shopping there isn't one available. I wanted a black Prelude in '85, but they only had Graphite Gray. Wanted a black 911, none in my price range.
Everyone's always warning you against it: too hard to keep clean, shows ever imperfection, swirl marks galore. Screw'em, I said, I want black. I'll take the risks and do the work. So yesterday, I bought a black on black 2003 BMW 325i. Gorgeous, all the options I was looking for, priced right, everything I wanted...a dream realized (almost - I'm kind of picturing a black 944S2 next to it, oddly enough). And today, I came out to see... a dusty black car with bird poop on it. I think me and the folks and Griots and going to get very friendly... Emanuel |
we had a black passat - great looking right after wash...
Never again will I have a black car. |
The only real 911 is a black one. On days the factory ran out of black paint they settled for the other colors. :) Having a garage helps lots in keeping it clean.

Black is GORGEOUS when it is clean and conditioned, and only for a little while. If you are OCD, like me, you'll love it.
Check out Zaino Brothers http://www.zainostore.com My wife's black Jeep looks incredible when I'm done using the four stage system from Zaino. It's been a while since my 'toy' was black. Another bad thing about black:
My 3-series convert was Black, with Black leather, and a Black top. That car was so damn hot, literally, that I couldn't enjoy it. Top up, it was an oven and you had to use A/C even at 65º Top down, the seats would get so hot you couldn't wear shorts. And water spots can really suck! E |
Knew a girl with a black Prelude. One summer, the heat exploded her rear windshield out.

Owned one black vehicle. Never more... always washing it as 6 hours later it looks dirty again.

Just bought my first black vehicle a few months ago. Crew-cab F150 Lariat and it is a stunner. I've always wanted a black ride and was dead-set on black versus all the nay-sayers: It'll be too hot in the summer! It'll show off all the dirt!
At least as far as the 'too hot in the summer' comment that someone made, I popped the hood and pointed out the A/C compressor, which is about the size of a Type IV motor. :D |
Had a black Alfa Giulietta Spider (62) in the 70's and I kept it spotless since I was a kid and it was my first sportscar and I built it. Had a black Rabbit GTI (83) in the 80's and barely kept up with it since I was now in the real world and it was a commuter car. No more black cars for me!
Until...wife sees beautiful black F150 Flareside. Has to have it. I say "You'd better keep it clean". "Oh, I will!", she says. Guess who washes it. |
I currently own two blackmobiles. My Chevy pick-up, and my wife's 912E. They both look great.

Hey, kaisen-
Jeeps are not supposed to be that clean! Get some mud on it! (My wife's other toy is a Jeep Wrangler) |

Anyone who lives in the great Southwest and owns a black car probably just moved there.
