Enegery, Economics and Conspiracies

I was reading something last week, and while I don't have the background to corroborate or debunk it, it did sound interesting, so I'm throwing it out here. This theory held that, since the US dollar is the currency in which countries must buy oil, by driving up the cost of oil, the value of the dollar is artificially inflated. The US is driving up the cost of oil by creating a disturbance in the ME.

One other piece of the puzzle is the theory that the real reason for the invasion of Iraq was was to prevent Saddam from switching to the Euro as the oil currency. These two would seem to go hand-in-hand. There are lots of pieces written on this, go google.

On a similar note (pun intended) I've had concerns about the falling value of the dollar, but at the same time, I've heard conservatives say it's a good thing, which has me further scratching my head. They say it makes exports cheaper, but the rate of import to export seems to lopsided, it's like pissing on a forest fire.

The oil men are laughing all the way to the bank, but I doubt there will be a 'windfall profits tax' this time.

Osama Bin-Laden’s goal has been to force oil prices into the $200 range, this would fit nicely into the oil companies profits.

I do see a conflict of interest here.

Uncle Dick and Condi must be doing very well, I don't think they ever sold out their oil interest.

Thanks!

You think I'm kidding, but... you'll get your fez. But you have to promise to wear it whilst browsing the board.

You got yourself a deal, buddy. I've been wearing one of those floppy 'bucket' hats (http://www.millerhats.com/productimages/177c.jpg) while working, because I let my birds roam free and for some reason, they won't land on my head when I wear a hat. A stormtrooper helmet will come in handy on \. also.

Yeah Bryan, right you are. I mean, if you think about it, there's just no way that humans with obscene incomes and asset holdings, and who have access to the power brokers in Washington DC, would ever think of considering the potential impact that public policy decisions have on their holdings, and certainly would refrain from influencing public policy that impacts them. No way. You're right, someone would have to be looney to think that people in power might do something like that. No, the people in power are certainly wealthy, but I'm sure they work very hard to avoid influencing the decisions that impact them...because they are completely ethical and that would be unfair. Your wisdom certainly shows when you berate someone like Thom for suggesting that these people might act in their own self-interest. That could never happen.

Supe, do you feel left out? I'll make a special hat just for you. I'm thinking an aluminum french beret, or maybe one of these goofy looking N. Korean soldier caps. If you prefer soviet russian style, I can probably fashion a hammer and sickle out of paperclips for it. Let me know.

Are you one of those obscenely wealthy people behind the curtain pulling the world's economic strings?

Thanks, Bryan. I appreciate your consideration. No, soviet communism is not my style so a hammer and sickle would probably not be appropriate. Maybe a Robin Hood hat. Or my usual style of hat, a beanie with a propeller.

There is nothing "obscene" about being wealthy.

Not in and of itself, but some of the methods to get there could be considered questionable.

BT would defend W as i would bash him, on every level w/o merit.

when was the last time W or any of his cronies had to shell out $2.50 for a gallon of gas? you could bet sure money that if airforce 1 fuel bill for trips to texas were out of his purse he'd be howling.

w will leave the white house MUCH richer than his 400K a year salary would do.

Just to clarify, do you mean that you would bash me on every level without merit? I totally agree
