Anyone have a 60's Ford Falcon
I have found a really clean 1962 Ford Falcon that I am interested in. I have some back ground with older mustangs but know absolutely nothing about Falcons. Does anyone know what to watch out for with these cars?

No problem, although my advice is that if you want a V-8, find an original V-8 car, as there is a ton to change when making the swap. If you do decide to make the swap, there is all kinds of info out there on what to do.
You could do somethign different though, like I have done: ![]() |

I have also seen a couple of turbo set-ups on early 60's straight sixes...
Here is a pic of the headers: ![]() |

To be honest I have never really dyno'd it. From the facotry they were rated at 120 back in the day, so we know that is high. One of the main problems with the motors was the lack of good air/fule distribtion to the outside cylinders, so the triple carb set up really does a good job of addressing the problem.
It idles and runs on the center carb, with a progressive linkage. I also have a port divider as the 3rd and 4th exhaust ports are combined from the factory. It has been bored .30 over and uses an electronic mallory distributor (no points, I hate messing with them). The headers are a 6 into 2, that run to two flowmasters. You would never know by listening to it thats its a six. THe biggest drawback currnetly is the transmission. Its a 3.03 three speed, so I run out of the gearing pretty quick. If I had to guess, I would probably put the horsepower somewhere in the 175 - 200HP range, which is respectable (using the butt dyno theory). Bill |

BTW, my dad had a 60 Falcon with the inline six. Being a teenager at the time, it was the brunt of many jokes, a few of which were not deserved. If I can find the book, and you want it, it's yours. Tim

I had one. A 1960 Ford Falcon with the 170 cu in six cylinder and the two speed "Fordamatic' tranny. Bought it in Sandy Diego 1992 for $500 (primer grey) and drove it cashed out and broke with girlfriend from Cali to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and then on to Long Island, NY.
Purred. Sweet motor, that six. I think about those nice times in that car often. |
