OT, advice on Alabama

Hi guys.

I wonder if anyone of you helpful guys lives in or has experience of a place called Mobile, AL?

I am considering buying a property there. Obviously, I will be coming over to reccee the area, just wondered if I could get a heads up first.

Alternative locations are Tampa Bay FL, or Corpus Christie TX

TIA

My inlaws live in Fairhope right up from the bay. Mobile is visible across the water. Mobile itself is not so nice. Outlying areas to the south towards Dauphine island can be very nice and very expensive.

Thnaks for that guys.

LOL, 'Just a little more humid than Malvern'!!!

I guess that would be an understatement then?

I suppose that I need to find out more about specific areas within the general Mobile county.

Time to dust off the old Passport.

Corpus is a much nicer place if you ask me. dauphine Island is nice but not really mobile proper. Not as humid in corpus. No one I know goes for a holiday to Mobile. I haven't been to Mobile in at least two years. And Corpus last year. AND you can drive and have fires on the beach on padre, Don't dismiss hurricane probability

Mark,

Having just bought a house in the Mobile area (moving there end of May), I think I could give alot of insight into the area.

Foley, Fairhope are in Baldwin county which is just across the bay from Mobile and a very easy commute into Mobile.(10-20 min or less depending on location)

Real Estate is very reasonable in Baldwin county (get ready Cali guys); we bought a 10 yr old 3br/3ba brick house just shy of 2600 sq ft with an oversize garage and a detached shop for $155K! I also have the name of an excellent realtor if you're looking to buy.
Baldwin county is a bit more "suburban" than much of Mobile proper, expanding well, and much newer for the most part. The towns of Daphne, Mablis, Spanish Fort are all pretty nice and situated well to Interstate 10 for commuting to Mobile. Schools in Baldwin are good and one of the main reasons we bought there, access to the bay and the Gulf are pretty easy as well.

Since we settled on Baldwin Co. pretty quickly, I can't give you as much info on Mobile Co other than that some of Mobile proper can be a bit dodgy, south of town is nice, west by the airport very suburban, west and north gets ruralish quickly.

One thing I don't know about the area is Porsche involvement; in the short time I've been there, I've seen plenty of the cars around but don't come across any locals on any of the Porsche BBS's I read.

I've also brought much of the info on the area back to our present location, so any further help I can be I'm glad to do what I can.
