I know of a tighter road...with steeper elevation gains and losses. But you east coast folks don't want to believe it...which is fine by me. That means perhaps one or two less obstacles the next time I drive it...

The Dragon played a significant role in my life. My wife dumped her bike there... right in front of me. Only she was someone elses wife at the time! They hadn't been getting along too well. After the accident he told her she wasn't going to be riding motorcycles anymore and she told him, "Goodbye."

someday i'll hit the dragon but don't bother on weekends, or when it's sunny, or warm, or....
many car clubs have their "meets" there and just clog it up if you want to enjoy it at your pace, w/o obstacles, you have to drive it around 7-9am... on a cloudy Wednesday in late October.... it's a shame |

Ehhh...The Dragons Tail is for *******s.....Try California Route 36, it crosses the Klamath Mountains (Trinity County) from Red Bluff to 12 miles below Eureka. Looks like a nice easy road on the map...but it is 150 miles of nothing but switchbacks with the final 50 miles or so nothing but a ONE lane road winding it's way along the side of a mountain with a fall off of a few thousand feet..There are NO GAS STATIONs, Restruants, and maybe one market on the whole road...There are several nice State Park Camp Grounds though....ONce you see it you can understand why Trinity Countys largest cash crop is Marijuna....Your out in the middle of nowhere... but it is beautiful

Ran it 4/13/05 in a light rain. Great place for a old FZR400. Very, very tight with elevation changes that make for off camber transitions. Lots of scars on the pavement from "casing out" The tree of shame is quite a sight too. For a more 4 wheel friendly road, check out the Cherohala scenic skyway. Faster, longer, better. I also read deadlier than the dragon too, I would guess because of the higher speeds. Nothing like a downhill decreasing rad turn with no run off to wake you up dead.

oh no.... I'm all for it... nothing like having some fun on the road w/ nice machinery, it's just that the popularity and notoriety of such roads becomes their downfall as well... there's nothing more frustrating than not being able to enjoy such roads at *your* pace
the reality of it is, there are "car clubs" and then there are CAR clubs... not all of them know that their tires work better when they have some heat in them ![]() you end up being stuck behind someone, or an entire car club of "somebodys" that are doing the run for the scenery of it ![]() plus, once a place becomes so widely known, there's the unavoidable police presence too.... hence my conclusion that to properly enjoy these civil engineering's roller coasters, you have to find a way to be there when no one else is there, or close to it-- there's a good reason why "randezvous" was run on a Sunday at dawn ![]() Last edited by }{arlequin; 04-14-2005 at 09:11 PM.. |

I could see just hanging at deals gap just for the party. The place has the feel of young, stupid fun. (or not so young and stupid)
![]() seriously check out the dragon but run the cherohala skyway. We had a M3 fly by us. I didn't bother to try and follow it. 2 wheels in the wet is dicy enough. http://www.tailofthedragon.com/cherohala.html |

Even the ride up to the dragon on the Cherohola Skyway is a nice ride for those who want a nice ride without pushing it to the edge.
