For the record, I'd like nothing better than not to go to war with Iran.

Then again, I can't think of a single time sanctions alone have worked to effect the desired change. I'm willing to learn of one, though.

How about the blockade of Cuba to remove missiles?

They had missiles, and continued to have them -- including nukes, which we didn't know until a few years ago. Hi, I'm JP and I'm a History Channel junkie.

I'd say that an embargo of missiles is different from a full-on sanctions package, but it could be an element thereof.

steve -- I did a search on the History Channel site, but came up blank. Probably didn't do it right b/c every single program they have you can buy a DVD of.

I learned of this 2 years ago (?) probably around the anniv. of the Bay of Pigs. The US military guys involved at the time that History Channel interviewed were shocked to learn this, to say the least.

There was also some mention of Castro having told his UN guys to declare that Cuba would launch a nuclear retaliation in the event of an attempted invasion. When the Soves heard this, they said "nyet, douchebag, you will not mention (y)our nuclear missiles" and put the nukes under direct Soviet control. Again, this is a couple of years ago, so the details might be fuzzy. I'm pretty sure about "douchebag", though.

I do have faith in Israel to clean up the garbage, again. The US doesn't need more prob with world opinion. The current game is to wait out a revolution afaik. I've been watching the goings on in Egypt as a leading indicator on Iran. So far so good. Syria will probably be the next revolution. Iran will follow Syria.

if Iran was even close to a delivery system Israel will call Bush in advance of Israel's strike. Bush will tell the world Iran is naughty and needs to be restrained. Two days later Iran gets blasted.
