911 Operator Agologises for Wisecrack

Who the fuch calls 911 over an unruly child?!?!

I would have said worse.

WATAUGA, Texas -- A 911 dispatcher was reprimanded for responding to a mother's plea for help with an unruly child by saying: "OK. Do you want us to come over to shoot her?"

"I admit what I did. It was stupid, it was inexcusable and I'm sorry," said dispatcher Mike Forbess.

The woman, identified only as Lori in Wednesday's Fort Worth Star-Telegram, said she recently phoned authorities after coming home to find her daughters fighting. She told the dispatcher that her 12-year-old had kicked a hole in the door.

After Forbess' comment, the woman fell silent for about five seconds.

"Are you there?" Forbess asked.

"Excuse me?" the woman asked.

Forbess, a dispatcher for five years at the Watauga Department of Public Safety, told her he was joking and apologized. But the woman was offended, and Forbess immediately told his supervisor what happened.

"This type of response cannot be tolerated, and this letter shall serve as notice that any future unprofessional responses while answering the 911 line will be cause for termination," Police Chief David Van Laar wrote to Forbess.

Watauga is a Fort Worth suburb of about 22,100 residents.

Edit: Could a kind moderator please correct my poor speeling in the thread title? Thanks.

We have "kind" moderators?

I might've replied that we were sending units over immediately to place the child under arrest. I dunno how it is in Texas, but in NY if you respond to a domestic, somebody's going away in cuffs.

Awhile back there was a 911 operator that hung up 3 times on a bike accident, he would answer with a really rude remark and hang up. I am not sure whatever happened in that incident, but Unruly children? am I missing something here, what the hell was she thinking, and to get offended on top of it all. She should be the one in trouble for calling 911 over a non-emergency, she should be the one apologizing. While she was calling someone else in to do her parenting, someone was probably on hold with a real emergency.

Rant over

Well we don't know the full story and the level of fighting. They were fighting and there was a hole in the door. Perhaps that mom was concerned that they would really hurt each other or something and felt an immediate response was necessary

I dunno, just being the devil's advoate here....

I have seen some scary 12 year old girls on Sally Jessie.

Did you guys see the thread with the audio clip of the woman in LA (where else?) calling 911 because the Burger King made 3 hamburgers the wrong way and refused to make it right?

It was posted here in Pelican somewhere.... Hilarious!

Just more of that wonderful Texas mentality....

both from the mother and the dispatcher...

Why didn't the police go over and shoot somebody? We must be getting soft - thats it! I ain't donating to the PBA until that kid (or mother) is at least drawn upon!

Chris -- I'd read that on OpinionJournal. I think it was that she was demanding that Burger King make some competitor's burger. So, essentially, she called 911 to complain that BK wouldn't make her a Big Mac (it wasn't a Big Mac, it was the banner product of a smaller burger chain with which I'm not familiar).

Well, we've managed to convince some people that government is the solution to all their problems. The left tail of the bell curve-type people.

I think a good swat at a fool would be better than establishing a commitee and working out some legislature to deal with these buttholes.

More goverment? Nope, actually more personal accountability and less in-breeding.

This fat-arse looking for a lipid fix is the typical type that thinks the world owes her - I know the type and by the grace of God and all that is holy, I have not whaled on one - just becuae I know if I did, they would find some BHL counsel to sue me for infringing on their civil liberities!

Give me a *****'n break!

You'll need to use 214 area code. Maybe they'll offer to come out and shoot me.

Mark,

You could always go hide out in a Burger King drive-thru in Socal. I have it on good authority they won't send sherrif's deputies there... ;)
