Just read a good book about VW
I just finished "Getting the Bugs Out", by David Kiley, and thought I'd recommend it here.
It covers the early history, including Ferdinand Porsche's early career, and goes into the Beetle in the '50's and '60's, then covers in detail VW's struggles through the '80s and early '90s, to their recovery in the last few years. It's all text, with just a few photos in the middle. The book is heavy on marketing and advertizing, but then that stuff can be very interesting. I just wish there were more on engineering and manufacturing. I've never seen a book like this about Porsche. Is there one?

No. There are no books about Porsches. Not one.
The most thorough one has got to be "Excellence was Expected" |

I have plenty of books about Porsche:
I mean a simple, text-rich book that gets into the details of operating the company, such as design, personnel, advertising, manufacturing, etc. Not a set of coffee table books that would cost more than a new set of racing tires.

I will post a few great articles I found when I get home. I just have to scan them first. It was about the first 30 years of the 911 and Porsche.
