PP photo-resizing not working?

I am a klutz when it comes to computers. I don't know how to resize pictures and had hopes that this would be done automatically with the new feature on PP.
Tried several times to upload a photo without success; a message comes back from PP saying that the file is too large.
My pictures are from a Olympus camera ~700kb jpeg and I use two ways to store: Windows XP "My pictures" and the Olympus Camedia master program.
Why does the "resize feature" from PP not work for me on a standard jpeg file?
Does anybody else have a problem with this?
How do you resize a photo?
Help.

Here is what I get:
You attempted to upload a file totaling 738006 bytes. This exceeds the maximum limit of 100000 bytes (100k). Please go back and select a smaller image.

????????????????????????Why???????????

It seems to work on some pictures and not others for me. I guess it will accommodate "any size" up to a point and then it rejects it. Frustrating it is.

Gunter,

After you crop/edit the .jpg click [File>save as], this should bring you to a file save box with the option of compressing the image (may have to click a "properties" button to get this option). Most I've seen are by pecentage, 10% is usually plenty to shrink the file size without real quality loss.

If you don't have a program which does this, www.irfanview.com offers a frreware that is a breeze to work with.

It resizes your photo, and then if the finished product is still too large, then you need to resize it yourself. This keeps the server from spending oodles of processing time reducing one person's pictures (and making 500 other people wait). Try saving your photos from your camera in a less high-quality format...

I'm not aware of any other sites that will resize your pics for you...

Ebay does it. I was not aware that this caused a problem. Maybe "any size, any dimension" should be changed?
