Red face Need help finding a good, inexpensive dress shop in Houston

OK, this can potentially be embarrasing, but here we go:

My wife has volunteered me to take her sister shopping for a dress. My wife is a bit younger than I am and her sister is ALOT younger. Then, just to add fun, the sister's two best friends decide they would like me to help them as well. Now I'm going out this Saturday, in Houston, looking for prom dresses for three teenage girls and we don't want to spend much money.

Any ideas?

Thanks and this is not a joke...

Hoping I survive the weekend,

Shopping for prom dresses and not spending much money is a non-starter.
You gotta figure about $100 per dress or more. There are two Nordstroms in Houston. good luck

Oh... David. I hope your wife is going to make this up to you.

I have nothing to offer but my sympathy.

Supe - I thought you got all your dresses at some Oregon naturefest/freakshow...

Nope the hippie fair is the fashion show I get them FOR. I find them at plain ol' thrift stores. They have lots, particularly nicer dresses that folks don't wear that much. If the young ladies don't turn their noses up at the idea, then that's the place to find stuff. Dresses are almost never as much as $5. I'm sure you could get something to fit you too, David. Maybe pick up something frilly for JP.

Steve,

Yup, figured $100 to 150. Don't want to go higher. Guess I should have stated that. They also don't want what everyone else is wearing.

Sup,

I used hand me downs in HS when I did the plays and Halloween and such. Didn't have to pay for the stuff... My wife had even done my nails once when her older sister and I were, ahhh but that is another story...

But maybe I will wear a kilt on Saturday when we go shopping! I'll ask JP for his dress size!

JP,

DEFINATELY!!! She has made promises!!

She is out of town this weekend which works well for her! This is not like the last time when she sent me out to The Galleria with a blonde, scantily clad exchange student with a barbie doll figure for clothes shopping while she and her sister went and looked at horses.

I'll pick you out something frilly, but I really need a dress size to go with, please let me know. I'll make sure the dress won't make your butt look fat!

All,

I'm really, seriously desperate here. Any ideas on a nice, inexpensive dress shop in Houston or is that an oxymoron? Even something that sells nice, used designer dressses would work. Thanks!!

Supe -
That's the laugh I needed this morning. Thanks.

David -- I prefer something off-the-shoulder and to mid-thigh. Preferably floral. 48" chest (no cup ... well, maybe an "A"). Just pick something that will look great with my Adidas Sambas.

If I lived close enough, I'd offer to take the bullet for you and escort the young ladies around for a day, but alas I am in NY and can only simultaneously pity and envy you.

JP

Perhaps you are a bit more chesty than I. I don't have enough upstairs to hang a garment on, so shoulder straps are necessary. But I'm happy to report that I have a bit more downstairs than most girls. They seem to be okay with my imbalance in these regards.

I'm glad to have provided a straight line for the discussion of wearing dresses!

JP,

I'll keep your requriements in mind, I'm sure we will come up with something wonderful in a tasteful floral. Something Klinger would have been proud to wear!

Sup,

Sorry I can't help you with the upstair portion, but I'm glad to hear that the women haven't complained. Ouch is always a hard exclamation to live with...

Let's see: Encore Resale Dress Shop near Westheimer and Montrose (that is an interesting part of town) and there are several dress shops around Waugh and West Gray. Guess we'll start around there?

Just to truly ruin your day, you can imagine me standing next to him in one of my kilts, shooting poor helpless innocent rabbits with my .44Mag lever action. Sup, hope your date book has an opening...

Maybe we could have a Pelican-sponsored cross dressing bunny shoot. I'll pack my Fendi bag with clips for my Glock.

Count me in! Now, where to find a dress for a guy who's 6'7" and over 300#. Nothing to frilly...low cut neck...but not too low (don't want to be to slutty). Definitely off the shoulder for better movement on the range. Maybe something classic like the little black cocktail dress? Finding size 16 heels might prove difficult though. Oh well, I'm open to new things

Can I shoot cats instead of bunnies?

I wonder where I'll store the speed loaders?

No, no, no. Always keep your ammo in a bandolier when wearing a cocktail dress. Some guys just can't accessorize.
