Need help with directions to LI, NY.... for a truck....

Sounds silly but I have a moving truck going from Nothern NJ (Belleville/148 GSP) to Port Washington LI to pick up a couple of large items. Mapquest gives me directions suited for a car. I need for a large truck.

Can anyone help or direct me to someone who can?

As always, Thanks!

You have to stay off Parkways so:

GW to Cross Bronx to Throgs Neck to Clearview to LIE.

yep.. stay off the Parkways. High container rigs get stuck under the overpasses routinely on the P's . I'm not sure if you have to read english to get a license anymore?

Reminds me of one time my former hangar tenant and I rented a U-haul to remove his 914 from a boatyard on the south shore. Everything hooked up and moving. . .onto the Meadowbrook Parkway. "Bah!" I scoffed, "Those signs are meaningless!" Until I started to see signs that were "Clearance 11'0" when the truck said "Clearance 12'0"- I am very thankful that the people at Uhaul incorporate an idiot factor into the height of their trucks.

I still have post-traumatic stress disorder.

If you go GW to Cross Bronx to Throgs Neck, (which I agree with) you can hop off at Northern Blvd which is 25A. You'll have traffic lights that way but you can come into Port Washington from the top side. 25A can also be a bit faster than the LIE around that area.

If you opt for 25A then get Mapquest directions using Little Neck as a start point.

OK, just to verify....

·GW Bridge
·Cross Bronx Expressway
·Throgs Neck
·Get off at Northern Blvd / 25A
·Turn LEFT onto PLANDOME RD/P.O. JOSEPH COOTE WAY. Continue on PLANDOME RD.
·Turn Left onto N Plandome Rd
·Turn RIGHT onto HUNTINGTON RD.

It gets a little confusing on Mapquest at 25A.

Ok guys I need a little more clarification on the section of directions below:

·Throgs Neck
·Get off at Northern Blvd / 25A
·Turn LEFT onto PLANDOME RD

It appears the Throgs Neck Bridge leads into Clearview Expressway and the Cross Island Pkwy. I assume I want the Clearview. Correct?

Exit 25A on the Clearview is Northern Blvd (North). Correct?

I want to be as clear as possible with these movers guys.

Thanks!

Clearview is correct. With a truck you can ONLY use Expressways and NOT Parkways, unless you want to turn the truck into a convertable and end up on the evening news for getting stuck under an overpass.

25A and Northern Blvd are one and the same. Or continue down the Clearview to the Long Island Expressway, 495.

I recommend 25A only because you don't go farther south than you need to, 25A is more direct. Has traffic lights but the LIE always has construction on it. You also need to come farther back North after getting off the LIE which may be as many lights as you'd encounter on 25A anyway.

Plandome road will get you up to Port Washington from 25A.

If you take the LIE get off at Shelter Rock Rd which will turn into Plandome Rd North of 25A.

No matter how you go driving on the Island SUCKS BIG TIME.

Good Luck.

Thanks again. I hear ya about traffic.

The movers are leaving NJ about 9am. Hopefully it'll work out for them.
