Kit cars using Porsche 911 parts
I've been trying to sell a complete but badly rusted 911 for several weeks and am not getting the price I need out of it. I could part it out but am not looking forward to the time and hassles in doing that. My next idea is to build a kit car using the suspension, steering, tranny, engine and any other parts from the 911 I can use. Are there any kit cars available that have frames that accommodate 911 parts? I don't really want to use a VW pan or have to try and modify one. Any and all information is appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

Some of the 550 spyder replicas are set up to take a 4 or a 6; that would be my 1st choice. I'm pretty sure you use the 911 trans and just swap the ring gear over to make it mid-engine (but then I'm kinda 911 ignorant)
Another option would be to get a clean 914 and build a 914-6, I think most ofwhat you have can be used to upgrade the suspension/brakes as well as the engine. That'd be an easy build and cant be tooexpensive since you have the parts. |

There was a article in the most recent 356 Registry about a 912 that was converted into a Intermechanica roadster. Short wheel base was a problem, but a lwb car should be easier. Dunno if there is a market for a donor car though....

There are kit car forums out on the internet. You should look there to get some ideas. I'd also call Becks, or do a google search under "550 spyder." A couple New Years ago, there was a guy on the TRE New Years run with a 3.6-engined kit car which was hella' fast, though I think the car can accomodate a wide variety of motors.
Barris, the guy who built the Batmobile, has a 550 Spyder, in which he put a 2.7 and 915 gearbox. The car is smokin' fast since it weighs only about 1,300 pounds. I would actually think most kit cars that can fit a VW motor could also suffice for a 911 motor. Out in Malibu, there's a retailer who specializes in building 550 offshoots, and now and then opts to put 911 running gear instead of VW parts in the same chassis with the same body style of car.

Well this thing uses a 915 or G50 mated to a Chevy small block. Guess you could use the Porsche engine if you wanted to.
I happen to really like this particular car and would love to build one. http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/usa/index.html Scott
