How not to park a brand new car

I'm guessing the owner is young and their last car was a high riding SUV.

Good thing they didn't put a chin spoiler on the new A3.

Interesting that the roof is almost all glass.

I went to look at the A3 last weekend (and cash-in on their iTunes promotion ). Nice enough car, but add a few options and you're at or over $30K. A bit high for the entry level, and very close to a simarly equipped A4. The car performed well, but really needs to be about $5K less.

Probably a chick driver. Women have NO concept of how high a curb is vs how low their car is, and they have the worst time understanding that F=ma, and that their 2005 Durango isn't going to slow down like their '97 Grand Am. argh!

kach, I can just see the proud owner now...watching as you're taking these pictures. He had to be thinking he made such a major score with his new ride. Strangers are even taking pics of it!

One of my favorite sayings perhaps needs a footnote:

One of my friends pulled into a parking lot the other day and did exactly what that A3 driver did. Except that she wasn't quite lined up in the spot, so she backed out (scraaaape) and did it again. Worse, she didn't just slide gently onto the curb, she gave it enough momentum to almost make me think she was trying to get up on the curb, then stopped hard when the tires hit. Ouch.

In some countries it takes more than $15 to get a motor vehicle operator's permit. In addition to a fee, there are tests to verify that the prospective licensee can operate a motor vehicle safely and proficiently. This has several effects, including greater safety, less traffic congestion, more extensive and more popular public transportation systems, reduced dependence on foreign oil, less emissions, yadda yadda.

This all must be balanced against the other main consideration. Money. Money for oil companies and money for auto manufacturers. Guess who wins those battles in America.

That A3 is really growing on me very fast as a second car of course for practical reasons only. I just registered for a test drive but just have to drag myself down to the dealer to see how she performs. Worst case, I get the iTunes promotion as well. Also I want to see how the 2.0FSI engine compares. If I am correct, they will be putting a 3.2 quattro engine in the A3 with DSG (direct shift gearbox) in mid 2006.

Don't forget 911 SC's either--usually in the rearview mirror of my 944.

We also went to see the A3 with the idea to buy one for my wife... Nice car, I liked it a lot, but the wife rightfully pointed out that the A4 was about the same price decently equipped, and she likes Sedans more (me I prefer hatchbacks, but hey)...

I'm sure it was parked correctly and suddenly, without warning, lurched forward like all Audis do.
