Subara Tribeca

I like Subarus (I have a WRX), and saw this in the paper today. If it wasn't for the strange center opening in the grille, it'd be a tasteful ripoff of the Cayenne. Not my cup of tea, but not bad...

Whimpy 2500 or 3000 towing capacity is a disappointment, IMHO.

I did a focus group on a pre-production Tribeca last Summer. Nice enough, for a minivan. The thick-soled shoe, black turtleneck and designer eyglass frame-wearing Californian who ran the group was NOT pleased at my comments. The Subaru exec who was presumably watching the whole thing on camera came up to me in the parking lot afterwards and we had a nice chat, though.

It's funny that you get exactly the same reaction from WRX/STI owners to the Tribeca as from 911 owners to the Cayenne. Why don't they just stick to what they do well and leave the mainstream crap for the mainstream manufacturers?

Ripoff of the Pfefferwagen like the P. is a ripoff of the Hyundai Santa Fe?

How about a Volvo 'Hoboken'? Or a Buick 'Hell's Kitchen'? A Chevrolet 'Tenderloin' maybe?

Who would want to do a rip off of the Cayenne, anyway? Toureg, maybe, but Cayenne?

The new Subaru nose treatment looks silly to my eyes.
