One day in NYC..
Another spring day in the Big City:
May 3, 2005 -- The 16-year-old Seward Park HS student fatally stabbed Friday in the Lower East Side died over a $40 debt, police sources said yesterday. Robert Adams, who lived in the area, met up with his attacker — whom he owed the money — and another youth about 7:30 p.m. at Delancey and Christie... May 3, 2005 -- A Catholic priest was savagely beaten yesterday by a gang of teens who attacked him as he jogged along a path in a Bronx park, police said. The Rev. Jorge Fernandez, 41, who works at Our Savior's Church on Washington Avenue, was jogging in Borough Hall Park at East Tremont and Third... May 3, 2005 -- A Queens father of 11 who claimed that a voodoo spell made him stab his lover to death refused to face the music yesterday — stubbornly holing up in his cell while a judge sentenced him to four to 12 years in prison. May 3, 2005 -- Two former NYPD detectives accused of leading double lives as mob hit men say they're suffering in the cold isolation of solitary confinement and have asked a federal judge to hold a formal hearing into prison conditions. By KATI CORNELL SMITH A teen who teamed up with a friend to bludgeon a homeless man to death in front of a church was sentenced yesterday to 15 years to life. Nice, huh. |

Considering the population of NYC that kind of thing is going to happen in newsworthy quantities every single day of the year. The NYC murder rate is expected to be around 450 for the year, but has been consistently declining in recent years to historically low levels. That's 1.233 murders per day.
None of which matters if you are the HS student, the homeless man, the priest. No doubt the City touts the absence of guns as a causative factor, which isn't borne by evidence. Last week was a bad week for murder. . . .http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/pdf/chfdept/cscity.pdf

Lovely... and my little sister is up in NYC right now...
At least I asked my friend in the NYPD to look in on her every once in a while.

You are right John. But is bad when stuff like this is page 17 of the daily tabloid. Per capita we are safer than Texas..

$185 for the tow $20 for the taxi $65 for the ticket. ![]() Still, NYC is the best place on Earth. hope to get back someday.

I can honestly say I felt a lot safer in NYC than in Victoria.
