And in the case of not doing yourself in, definantly try to avoid being like these guys. Mexican TV star Ponce dies in accident http://wm.univision.speedera.net/wm.univision/Mexico%202005/Mayo/0506/050506motos300.wmv http://tv.yahoo.com/news/va/20050505/111535218500.html |

jesus, 350. my bro told me about it, but i didnt know it was ponch. and that video is very sobering. be careful you biker dudes. i still have issues, my bike stays parked, mostly |

I used to be a hardcore rider myself, but after enough people you know die while riding you eventually get the message. Nowadays I try to satisfy my extreme acceleration urges on four wheels. |

I'll refrain from showing that video to the wife... There's danger everywhere. It's bizzare how some us wind up answering the call. My luck I'll end up getting a header from a bullet shot up in the air during a 4th of July celebration by a drunk over the hill. |

creaturecat et.al, Thank you for your posts. Yes, that video was very sobering. I'm glad I saw it. It will make me more aware on the road. Those are some neat bikes. The '85 Yamaha looks pretty neat. I saw a few bikes on the twisties coming home from a pelican's house in Berkeley just an hour ago. On an unrelated note, I also saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee that went over the edge of the mountain (a very steep at least 400 ft. drop), and was absolutely totaled. The stereo was stolen and no one was inside, so I'm assuming they pushed it over the mountain once the thieves were done with it. Another pretty sobering site. Guys, be careful around those twisties! Thanks. |

THAT is what you should learn on if you want a sport bike. Go to a motorcycle school, invest in safety gear and do not think about riding a Hayabusa. I was fortunate to grow up with a father that raced motorcycles, I started out riding Rupp minibikes, up through 80's 125's 250's 500's and so on. I was not allowed ot ride anything over 750cc's until I turned 18. You cannot learn to ride on a 1200cc bike. you need to learn balance and feel. You cant do that on a bike like that. |

My first street bike was a monster (Honda VF750S), but then again I had been riding mini-bikes and dirt bikes since I was 7. If you don't have that kind of experience under your belt before you get a powerful street bike you are in for trouble. The first time your front or rear tires loose traction and/or the bike gets all squirrly and you don't know what to do, carnage will be the likely result. |

As long as we are popping off about "don't be like these guys" Let's not forget Indian Larry... (RIP) Sure he was hot dogging when he crashed, but he was a VERY experienced rider. And was a fantastic artist/mechanic, built some really cool $hit. So sad. |
