'Ye Ole' Official NASCAR sux thread
I think this thread is highly appropriate since it is thrown in my face everytine I turn the 72 incher to Speed Channel. Does anybody else feel that it's just a matter of time before they start having professional wrestling events in the infields?

Everything is about entertainment these days. A sport just isn't a sport anymore except maybe baseball and hockey and well you know the story of hockey. I am a fan of Nascar but only the driving and the track set-ups etc. I can't stand the whining and the complaining especially lately Dale Jr complaining that Jimmie Johnson caused the accident 2 weeks ago. Just get out there and drive.

Oh I just love SPEED now. Can you imagine anything more exciting than watching NASCAR stars playing cards, getting haircuts and cleaning their garages - all of which I've actually seen on SPEED. Well, I really should not say 'seen', as I could only stomach a few seconds of that dreck.

They need to save that incredibly exciting material for their future NASCAR reality TV channel.

I could only hope the channel AND the "sport" fades into obscurity.

Whatever makes you guys happy; racing anything beats the hell out of an internet circle-jerk.
Besides, all the anti-NASCAR and pro F1 arguements prove that the stock car boys are more talented drivers. And they have a far superior TV package and coverage. If B.E. really gave a damn about what US fans though of his series, he's dust the moths off his wallet and pay for some real coverage. |

I'm waiting for a racing reality show. Each team gets $100,000 and it has to last them a whole season. They can either buy a $100,000 car and hope it makes it all season or a $10,000 car and mod the hell out of it. Any winnings can of course be reinvested.
Now that I would watch!

http://www.imp.mc/rocwebsite/index.htm When Jeff Gordon came up sick JJ had to scramble to find a driver with a passport. Casey Mears was the only one he could find. How awesome is that? JJ ran a 2:18 to Schwarz' 1:50 for a 1st round elimination. Mears ran a 1:45.417 in a close 1st round loss to Alesi's 1:44.870 Yeah, the NASCAR boys really represented when they went to ROC. They could not get past the 1st round. Please do not tell me they are more talented drivers. They had their chance to prove it and failed miserably.

So you're using a single elimination tourney to determine the best drivers in the world? Mears times in the 1st round put him in the top group; his pairing sent him home. That's hardly racing, hardly failing miserably either.
JJ stunk up the place, but his acomplishments in NASCAR have far more to do with the horse he's riding; no secret there. As a fan of motorsports, I don't feel the need to prop up one series or set of drivers or type of racing over another, nor do I see where any set of drivers stands above the rest. As I stated so elequently above, participating in any type of racing beats the heck out of arguing about it on a BBS. It may suck for F1 fans to live in the US, I don't know why because I manage to catch qualifying and races every week. The truth of the matter is that F1 coverage doesn't pay the bills at Speed, NASCAR does. DOn't blame Speed because F1 can't attract enough fans. |

I'm not blaming SPEED for broadcasting nascar related stuff because I understand it from a revenue standpoint and I enjoy their coverage of F1. I'm just simply stating that nascar has taken on an almost WWF persona. And oh yeah...I think it sux.

You compared them. I went to the one race series in the world that attracts the cream of the crop from every form of racing for a comparison. I am not a fan of NASCAR nor am I a fan of any right hand turn only circle track racing. I have watched my share of NASCAR to know its not all skill. Its about drafting the right guy at the right time and working a push to the front. Being in the right place at the right time. I have seen a car pull out to pass loose the draft and fall back 8 places and out of contention. Its very frustrating to watch. Do not look too much into the times. I watched the event and read better recap than what is on the website. Yes, Mears time appears to be a lot faster than everyone else but there was a lot more to it than just raw time. At one point early on they changed the course layout to slow down the Ferrari's which were getting air over the bridge and cracking their windshield.
