A pretty far-fetched idea. You'll need some serious money to play.
Jay Leno has his full time man. I suspect Jerry Seinfeld has A LOT of help. And all the collections and museums have a point man, curator or whatever you want to call him.
I feel pretty energetic and would like to build some cars. I have my own ideas about some 911s that you have never seen the likes of....yet. Of course, I don't have the money to play. I have been around cars and race cars for 40 years and not much has been lost on me. I think you know where this is going. Sure, a fantasy for most of us, full time play with pay. But, there may be one reader here that is ready. Don't speak up here, PM me and I'll come interview and we'll see what develops. A little story before I close: Many years ago (in the early 70's) I ran an ad in the Los Angeles Times. It said, "Wanted: Ferrari fixer or will fix yours." I got a call about a week later from someone who started to say he had something. My recorder (the old tape style) was set on 1 minute recording time and they didn't announce in those days that they were shutting off. So, the guy gets to his phone no. and it ends. He never called back probably thinking I was a jerk for not returning his call. You never know what could have been. Did I know anything about Ferrari's? Hell NO! But I would have put my honesty, integrity and dedication out to do what I'd rather be doing. That might have been enough in it's own right. However, today I have a lot more to offer. I guess it's called *experience.* ![]() I'm sure this will spark many more stories about cars and what could have been as well as dream cars we would like to have built for us. Bring it on. I just need to hear from the one right person privately. It still could be. |

Wish I had the bucks and the space Milt...You'd make a great "contractor" for building an exotic early 911 hotrod.

Ahh yeah, but I've often wondered...do the guys with fleets of exotics really have more fun than we who love & care for one toy car? Seems to me most of their time is spent adding to or upgrading their toy collection. I'd like to have the bucks to find out.

![]() On a serious note, that's the sort of thing someone needs to know when doing a project. Where to turn for what. Today, I know many accomplished craftsman in various fields. To do it all in-house is insane. For my own car, I have to do it all because that's who I can afford, me. And that gives me a very good perspective of what is needed. I started with Corvettes and did a few "frame offs." I suppose I could really do quite a variety if I wanted to. But that gives me fiberglass experience which comes in handy when working with after market parts. I did 2 MG's and that gave me some perspective as well (like using wood as a door frame, LOL) You know, cars is cars, but I would have more interest in 911's than others. 356's qualify, but there are some very accomplished shops out there for the 356. I think this will be a fun thread even is it goes nowhere for me. I have avoided the OT forum lately because I can get all worked up about some topics. At least this is somewhat benign. I don't want to get worked up anymore....... That having been said, I'll make my prediction. I think SC's and Carreras worked over to be like the very first RUF cars are going to be the next big thing. Not backdating them. In a way, backdating all the way to a car that it's not is silly. Backdating to IROC is not as unseemly. Not to call an early car ugly, that's not the point. I would advance the idea of taking full advatage of any car's attributes and enhancing them, not disguising them. If I understand Mr. Ruf at all............... |

I'll be the first to admit that the 911SC needs help.
