MOe on the wireless connection
 

I got the router and wireless connections, as well as the hard wire connection all to work today. That's 3 computers, so my wife can work anywhere she likes and I can be in the garage on Pelican.

It doesn't get any better than that. I've got a TV out here, the good stereo and 2 Porsches. I may move a bed out here ;)

But............just for giggles, I downloaded Mozilla's Fire Fox because all you techies were so positive about that browser. Seems a bit slower than my regular IE.

I'm thinking you guys are going to tell me not enough memory. Is that it? And don't ask, because I'm not sure about this machine. It's another oldie from the late 90's. Probably Pentium III with maybe 128 RAM.

In fact, a Dell Demention XPS T500 and I assume it's still the way it was sent out to my d-in-law who has since upgraded. Now, I'll admit she had way too much on the hard drive like pictures and such, but I've spent quite a bit of time deleting all her files.

Spell check won't work on this system either, I wonder why? Can you tell by the title? ;)

Firefox loads a bit slower but there is an option that can be enabled to expand the cache for the purpose of a faster startup. (The install wizard should have asked you to make this choice as well)
Memory, in many instances, is the cheapest way to improve PC performance.
Netscape just announced their new browser that purportedly combines the goodness of Firefox and IE....we'll see.

I agree with Rick, and would also add that you may just need to use Firefox a few days. As you load pages, it will save frequently used graphics/buttons/animations/etc. and will load them faster the next time they're used.

I have a garage computer too, and I'd be tempted to live out there if I could fit a microwave oven somewhere. :D

The browser in the Mozilla Suite has a built-in feature called Quick Launch which can be activated through "Edit -> Preferences". This feature will keep some of the browser resources in system memory so that the browser will load more quickly when it is invoked. On Windows systems it will place place an icon in the System Tray to indicate that it is active. This icon can be double-clicked, supplying an alternative means of invoking the browser. By default on Windows systems the feature will load at system startup. This behaviour can only be managed from within Windows itself. On Windows 98/ME you can run the System Configuration Utility via "Start -> Run" and typing msconfig and then selecting the "Startup" tab and unchecking the Mozilla Quick Launch item.

Firefox does not have a Quick Launch feature similar to that for the Mozilla Suite. However, a third-party utility called Firefox Preloader is available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/ffpreloader/ (https://sourceforge.net/projects/ffpreloader/). It performs in much the same way as the Mozilla Quick Launch feature, but directly provides more configuration options such as loading at system startup.
