Are any of these fake? If so which one or ones?

That Arctic Cat in your first picture certainly isn't fake. While a little ungainly looking, that's one stout big water boat.

I'm going to be making a couple of 20 mi. runs off the Washington coast in this over Memorial Day Weekend.

We'll be chasing after some of these:

I'm sure to be wishing for a big cat at some point in the weekend. BTW, those lings are UGLY but they sure taste good!

Hey - anyone know why the first picture doesn't show? You can paste the URL in by hand and get to it...

SteveStromberg, I like your boat - center console catamaran, way to go.

Jamie79SC, what kind of fish is that? Dangerous looking to say the least.

The paddle boat with the big Honda engine looks to be "stagged". No water craft number for a powered craft, plus it would sink. Guess if you had to trailer a spare engine and did not want oil/gas leaking out, or scratching up the engine case it would be one way to transport it.

If you are into boats or boat building, this is a good site:

I thought it was a typo.

Seems to be a type of Cod.

It's called a ling cod. This specimen was over 35# and yes those teeth are even nastier in person!

Super,

Too bad the 'but season closed last week and I didn't have a chance to get any. I heard the fishing was great too.

Oh well, we'll go after other bottom fish and fill the freezer for the upcoming BBQ season. Just in time too as we ate the last of last year's fish last week.

edit - I didn't know you could get the word 'last' three times into one sentence.

Ling cod are nasty critters. They kept three of them in the aquarium where I lived in CA fenced off from the shark tank.

The divers would jump into the shark tank to fix stuff, but no one would go near the Lings.

One time some sort of very expensive little fish (that sharks didn't care for I guess) jumped the fence onto the wrong side. I saw pictures of the incident, there was so much thrashing and stuff that it was almost all just bubbles and churned water in the little pen. Of course, no one would go get it, but the little guy managed to jump back over and escape.

I think two of them were about 60#s and the other was 40ish. And they were all mean as hell.

A friend and I snagged one when we were about 13-14 years old and wrestled it up to the top of the water, but the line broke. I'm not sure what we would have done if we would have got it in the boat, his dad probably would have laughed as it thrashed around and beat the snot out of us.

Well Drago, that newspaper cliping just about tells the story.

I will disagree, however, about the larger fish being too tough or wormy. We froze the fillets from that 35 pounder which were later sliced up and made grilled fish tacos for about 40 people. The night we caught that fish, my wife baked the frame and head which made heaping plates of fish for four and the stock and remaining meat made chowder for another meal for four. These guys are just about all meat and teeth.
