iPod Radio
 

Anyone running an iPod capable stereo in their car? I need some sort of radio in the P-car and thought the iPod set-up would be killer.

Hmmm... I thought there were new radios out that had an input for the iPod. I guess if it has an RCA jack you can get a converter cable. Is that what you have? If so, all I really want is a cheap Blau that will do the job. I had one of those wireless tuner adapter things where you set it to a dead station and receive it that way. It didn;t work well.

mine only works when you set it right between the seats... behind the parking brake.

Its starting to catch on. I recently bought a JVC at a fairly low price that has a mini jack on the front panel. Many of the Alpines and Sonys have an interface that allows you to go from the USB to the change control, which, on some units allows direct control and readout from the car stereo. Since almost all of what I have on my Creative is live stuff, I didn't really care about that, so the minijack was a cheap solution.

I've never seen a car headunit with an RCA IN-lots of outs, no ins.

So how does it connect and what kind of cable is it? Does it connect to the headphone jack, remote port or dock connection?

You are thinking of some of the new cars on the market, I've seen the adds where the car even comes with an Ipod.

Alot of aftermarket radios have some form of auxiliary input, but it depends on the make and model.

Pioneer's require an external device that plugs in through the changer port, and allows you to hook up through RCA cables. Some Sony's also require this form of adapter.

Alot of other manufacturers just use a mini mic plug that is likely just like the mic jack on the Ipod.

I'm running the Alpine 9833 with the Ipod module and it kicks ass. I took out the cd changer since there is no longer a need. Did I mention it kicks ass?

I just figured out mu old Blaupunkt Madison CD127 has an aux input. It's a 3.5mm jack. I suppose I can get a cable from Radio Shack to connect to the headset port on the iPod.

Snap, crackle,, pop! IT vut in and out and overall sounded like crap with very low volume. I shut it down and drove with nothing. I guess it's back to the drawing board.

sounds like a ground problem......try stripping back the cable you got from radio shack and ground the shield of it to the case of the radio.

Some radios with RCA jacks are meant for output only(amps etc.) Find one that is MP3 ready and you'll never have to worry about skip. Nakamichi makes a great one that is easy to use and can be had for about $240 from online dealers, $400 retail.

Crutchfield may be able to still get you an aux adaptor for this radio. They still have them for the "Toronto" Blau that I have. It is an adaptor that will plug in and leave two RCA inputs to put your iPod signal in. You then need a mini-jack to rca output (Now you can go to RadioShack) and your done.

john tried that and had noise, the blau he has has a standard headphone input.
