Recommend Office Suite For Mac OS X?
I'm looking for an office suite - well, just word processing and spreadsheet - to use on my new iMac. (Great machine, by the way, especially w/ 2GB RAM).
One that isn't MS Office X, ideally. I have that on the iBook, find it slow to launch and not that easy to use (even though I use Office on PC all the time). Criteria: Can open files in, and save files in, MS Word and Excel format. Simple to use. Works well with OS 10.4. Cheap or free. What do people think of OpenOffice for Mac? I'm a little confused by all the X11 stuff. Any other suggestions? |

what about the new Mac apps? Pages will handle most of what you need
http://www.apple.com/iwork/pages/ The last time I tried open office is was *not* anywhere near ready for prime time. |
Open Office works just fine.
http://www.openoffice.org/ X11 is no big deal. Don't even think about it. Nice thing about the open source stuff, download it, try it, don't like it dump it. And if you do like it it's free! Can't beat that. Scott |
Doesn't AppleWorks satisfy your criteria? It should already be on your computer from Apple.

AppleWorks looks so OS 9. Yes, it does actually work ok.

Pages does not look OS9.
