Robbing a restaurant where 5 uniformed cops are eating........

Robber dies in Spur shoot-out
23/05/2005 22:11 - (SA)

Cape Town - A member of Gordon's Bay police shot a robber dead after three armed men burst into the Sunset Bay Spur on Sunday night and robbed the cashiers, little realising five cops were eating there.

In what has been described as a heroic deed the lives of many customers were saved by the five officers.

Reports state that the children in the restaurant's play area were taken to a storeroom. Customers were warned to lie flat on the floor.

Superintendent Billy Jones, a police spokesperson, said the robbery happened about 21:30.

"The police were in their uniforms and on duty."

Jones said one of the police had seen three armed men holding up a staff member at the cash register.

"The robbers shot at a police officer, who returned fire and fatally wounded one robber in the back," said Jones.

The other two men ran away, still firing. Two people were wounded in the shooting.

A student constable of the Gordon's Bay police who came to the officers aid, was shot in the leg and a 25-year-old resident of the town was wounded in his left side.

Jones said: "The constable is in a stable condition in hospital. The other man was treated at the steakhouse."

The two suspects fled in a brown Charade, with an undisclosed amount of cash. This vehicle was later found about a kilometre from the restaurant.

The men swopped cars and took off in a white Volkswagen Jetta which was near the steakhouse.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on Sunday morning about 02:30 by members of the town police and a white Jetta was seized in Khayelitsha. A third suspect is still being sought.

Pierre van Tonder, group managing director of the Spur Group, said on Sunday they were thankful that no customers or staff had been seriously wounded.

"The . . . police officer. . . returned fire and fatally wounded one robber in the back," said Jones.
If that happended in Kalifonria robber's family would likely end up being wealthy after the wrongful death suit!

Here's a good one..... "Store Clerk Gets Own Stolen Check"

"Ashley Oglesby was only on her second day of work at a Malvern, Ark., tobacco store when another woman tried to pay with a check — from the checkbook of Ashley Oglesby."

What get's me is a drive-up window at a tobacco store. That's something I've never seen.

This might be a dumb idea (wouldn't be my first, won't be my last), but could the other two guys that helped to rob the joint be charged with murder of their other team member? Their actions directly led to the death of one of their own. Even though they didn't pull the trigger, how responsible are they for his death? Or is this one of the elements that are factored into other parts of the judgement, but isn't directly said?

From Today's NY Post:

'POSTER' BOYS FOR STUPIDITY

By ERIKA MARTINEZ
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
May 25, 2005 -- A Brooklyn suspect in two livery-cab stickups redefined stupid yesterday when he walked into a police station to check on his arrested partner-in-crime — and found himself standing in front of his own wanted poster.
It took only a split-second for the stunned cops at the 90th Precinct in...

I'll match that and raise you.....

"Suspect caught trying to claim drugs left in rental car"

" Two car rental employees helped lead Birmingham vice and narcotics officers to seize more than 100 pounds of marijuana Monday and arrest one suspect."...
" As if that wasn't easy enough, police again got a break when the suspect later Monday afternoon showed up at Enterprise Rent-A-Car to pick up what he described as his personal belongings."

"Idiots: That's what works for us," Chambliss said."

I'm still trying to figure out how he got trapped in there. Did he come out through the window and lock himself in or something?

If I'm not mistaken if an act (crime) results in a death then the person responsible for that act can be charged with that death. If the act was premeditated then the person could be charged with premeditation of the death making it a homicide.

Le Roux,

This just again proves my theory that stupidity is cureable by death alone...

Cheers!
